ack someone opened their door into my turbo
Had to go to the mall. Given this, 99% of the time I find a nice spot out of the way. However, this particular day (for some reason) I decide to take a chance....
Down to the metal practically. Shop wants to repaint panel for $1400. Anyone have experience using the touch up paint?

*******s!!! California ain't too bad when it comes to this. When I moved to Reno it was like a plague I could not avoid. Good thing I was driving a Mazda Protege at the time.

imo using touch up - damage will stand out....and virtually all door dings do leave more than paint damage.
any reputable body shop will insist on complete respray of the panel to insure paint match - and that's correct thing to do.
sounds like the price you have been given tho for a single panel sounds high....i would expect respray of a door to be well under $1000.

Repainting has some issues to be aware of:
It's almost impossible to get a perfect match (especially metallic colors, but you're lucky you got white); would you rather have a whole panel that doesn't match or just a few specks that you touched up?
When it's time to resell or trade in the car, people automatically assume you were in an accident. I have heard of car dealers that automatically penalize the car's value if ANY repainting was done, rightly so or not.
I would try the touch-up first and see how it turns out.

I know a guy in Orange County that does paint repair and he is real good. On small stuff, he can do mobile service or you can go to him, he is in Orange, CA. Contact TJ Wallace 714-350-6070. His company is called "Chips Away" and he has been doing this for over 15 years, does alot of work for the dealers, etc. Uses an airbrush and other equipment. If your damage involves an actual dent impression of the metal where the paint got chipped off, you will need a dent removal expert to get the dent out, then do the paint. Try to avoid getting the whole rear panel painted if you can. Best dent removal guy I know is Dan Rhodes, 714-720-4789 or 714-544-6439, also in Orange. I have used both of them before on a Lexus I own. Tell them Judge Gary says hello
