Misting in paddle shift steering?
#61
After 10 wks I just dug it out of the snow and went for a ride. Can't believe that I was ever interested in a sls!
I'd like to replace my wheel and is there a Service Bulletin #, or something else that I can give the service dept when I call.
This is Massachusetts and the dealers are not quite up to "speed".

Wheel replaced.
I called the dealer and of course they had no idea of what I was talking about so I sent this pic. When they saw it they ordered a new wheel and was changed in about 10 days. This pic may help others with same problem so feel free to use it.

Maybe I missed the answer earlier in this thread but what is the root cause for this problem? Is it something that is more likely to happen to cars that are left out in the elements and subjected to large changes of ambient temperatures during the day?

How would you like to be the supplier to Porsche on these OE steering wheels?

gerbs, does your have the problem? Mine does. I don't worry enough about it to have mentioned it to the dealer - nothing has taken me back since I bought it 6 months ago. I'll probably report it at the first service.

Touch wood no signs of the fault in mine. Maybe it is more prone to the earlier releases but I am going to keep an eye on this just in case.

Unlisted number!
The repair invoice had no service bulletin # and so I called the service manager and he said that when he saw the pic he ordered the replacement wheel without checking that out, so no number.

Mine came from the factory with crud in the wheel, but it got worse over time. Supplier issue with the steering wheels. Porsche knows about it. Replaced under warranty no questions asked. Newer build cars supposedly have the improved steering wheel.

Mine was a March build and though there is no crud or a crusty look, it appears to be a some mist. I'll photograph it and post to see if others looked like mine and they still replaced the wheel.
