ok, based largely upon you guys and getting things straightend out with the local tuners, i am going to install the Champion IC's. Im really excited. after thinkning about it, maybe i should just do upgraded VTGs while im at it?
my tuner says that i will have to get a different tune. I have a softronic tune and have the ability to re-flash if i upgrade turbos. However, several tuners have recommended not to do that and go with a protomotive tune. This is getting expensive.

protomotive is the way to go.
also, if I were you, I would go step by step and try the IC's with stock turbos first to see the differences.

why the protomotive instead of a softronic re-flash? I agree about the step by step moves so that you can see the differences, but it seems that you save a little on labor if you just do it all at once.

Do them both if you can afford to. The difference between IC only and with upgraded vtgs is huge. Are you experiencing heat soak now or under performance? If not, then why not wait until you can afford to do both and it will give you more time to search for the right tuner for you. I would stick with one set of bolt-ons from one tuner and not mix and match parts since tunes are optimized with the hardware that is on them.

Promotive is significantly better than softronic when talking about custom tunes, the softronic is more off the shelf. The standard softronic also extends the threshold of the 02 sensor, to a point where the readiness parameters are never met when smog testing your car, hence a fail. Whoever does your flash, make sure it is CEL activated and 02 sensing. I'm sure softronic can do it if you ask them.

There is no need to reflash the car after upgrading ICs...A good file keeps an eye on IAT and as it stays low timing is not retarded...Stock ICs will lead IAT to higher values after repeated runs so timing will be retarded and power will fail...so simple...

I think you stand corrected on a couple points, the tuning is no more off the shelf than Proto as we work together and Todd uses me to flash his cars. The next item is the ready status... these are and always have been set since I started making software and work just fine. Im not aware of any softronic car failing for these. All the O2s function properly including the post cat when used and eliminated in some race applications. Now you did say smog in which states like California check Ready status and smog. The smog test is out of the tail pipe so should you remove your cats etc you will fail with any software.

Best,
Scott

More precisely Todd uses your flash client as does others. He does his own programming and tuning.

I would like to add something here in this discussion about tuning and who does what with who and why...

While we at Switzer Performance have personally worked with both Scott Slauson at Softronic and Todd Knighton at Protomotive, I must say that we have not been disappointed in any way regarding the collaborations we have had. In the very technical world that tuning water-cooled Porsche engines is, I also have to say that no one who wants the best results will likely do it alone. When it comes down to getting the most for your investment with a company looking to provide you with products and solutions for your vehicle or situation, you must understand that you are dealing directly with the experience, expertise, and knowledge of everyone that they work with as well.

We are proud to collaborate with Scott and will continue to do so. We strive for excellence and perfection here at Switzer Performance, and we only work with the best resources possible to satisfy the needs and requirements of our clients. If we work with Scott you can rest assured that his products, knowledge and experience are first rate.

I can not say any good or bad things about softronic as I have never worked with them. I am advising protomotive based on my own experience. No other reason.
