Exhaust Recommendations

I am looking for an exhaust system for my 997.1 TT and I have spent many hours watching (listening) videos, reading posts and thus far have only heard one in person (SpeedART) nor do I anticipate being exposed to many more. I prefer the sound to be throatier than stock and not so loud that my wife won't enjoy a drive in the car. I thought I had narrowed it down to a Europipe but a shop that I am working with has suggested an APR LeMans System for the 997 TT. Does anyone have any experience with this exhaust?

I am very much aware that the sound of each exhaust system/manufacturer is very much a personal preference so with that said I thought I would put this out there to see what the thoughts are on the APR system (if anyone has it) and then which exhaust you guys feel might be the best for such a compromise of changing the sound to a throatier more aggressive one yet w/out rattling the neighbors windows.

I wasn't even aware that APR manufactured an exhaust for the TT?? While I've never heard it in person, the EP system is universally liked by those that want a slightly more aggressive sound than stock. Just $$$

I thought the Le Mans was some kind of B&B exhaust. If so your best bet is the EP.

Yes, the APR is made by BB (manufactured in asia I believe), a decent exhaust, but loud for sure. The EP1 is the best imo. Pricewise, an EP will run about 4k, the APR is 3800. For 200$ I'd get the EP.

Have you considered the Tubi Style exhaust for your 997 Turbo. They currently offer two variants for your application.

Tubi Style "Street" System
There are not a lot of bad things to say about the 997 Turbo. It’s powerful, fast, and comes with a long list of standard options. But if there were one thing we could find to complain about, it would be the Turbo’s relatively anemic exhaust note. The Tubi Style street exhaust system for the 997 Turbo is a major improvement over the factory part both in terms of sound and performance. By using 200 cell high-flow catalytic converters and a proprietary free-flowing center muffler, the Tubi system relieves backpressure and allows the VTG turbochargers to spool much quicker and react more responsively to driver input. As a result of this free flow of exhaust gasses, the Tubi system is responsible for 15-20 horsepower gains, and also produces a much more pleasing exhaust note. This system is very commonly referred to as “the best of both worlds” because of its unique ability to combine performance and drivability. During normal driving and highway cruising the sound is very similar to stock, without any increase in cabin resonance. During hard acceleration the free flowing characteristics take over and create a much sportier sound.

Tubi Style " Race " System
Although the 200 cell catalytic converters that are included in the Tubi Style street exhaust system for the 997 Turbo are far less restrictive then the stock 600 cell cats, there are certain applications where even they are still too restrictive. If power is your ultimate goal, then the Tubi Race is the answer. By completely eliminating the catalytic converters and using a specially designed free-flowing center muffler, the Race system minimizes backpressure and compliments higher horsepower applications, including the use of larger upgraded VTG Turbochargers, perfectly. The increased flow is responsible for an additional 5-10 horsepower over the standard Tubi Street system, on an otherwise stock car. Tubi also included O2 simulators in the Race system to relocate the Oxygen sensors out of the direct flow of exhaust gasses, eliminating any potential CEL (check engine light) issues associated with removing the catalytic converters. Because Tubi realizes that the larger majority of their exhaust systems will spend their time on street cars, the center muffler was also slightly redesigned in this system in order to keep cabin resonance and overall volume at an acceptable level for day to day use without making any compromises in performance. The end result is an intoxicating sound, combining the whistling sound of turbochargers with the distinct exhaust note of a finely tuned Porsche.

I just ordered the Europipe stage 1 version. Did a lot of research and the EP seemed to be the best exhaust sound without too much drone inside the cabin. As Chris has said it is around 4K depending on the euro but worth the investment if this is the sound you are looking for. Check their web site. Stef can answer any questions you may have.

Stock version with cats removed. by far more cost effective, sounds good and is free flowing.
