Intercoolers...997,2 Vs 997,1...Game over...
#121
For daily drivers of course a 997TT could be far enough with its stock IC's, a VW golf too...
But it is not my need, my need is Big Power!
Sacrifice under 3000rpm because of Ic's? Because the worth 997.2Ic's flowing?
Let me laugh...
Stay stock and me tuned!
I will retune after the mount of the 997.2 Ic's, to benefit the best those coolers will allow.

I did four runs from 50 to 250 km with ,2 ICs and IAT never exceeded 47-48C...OEM 997,1ICs had 65 at first run,70 at second and 73 at third...Big fat amICs had 68 at first and 76 at second...I wonder if any tuner would dare to retune DME with amICs...
On the other hand there are two things crossing my mind...
1)It is really dissapointing that APR does not provide a retune for any upgrade done to the car...I believe my car is not in position to take full advantage of lower IATs...
2)Sometimes I wonder if the specific sets of amICs were ok...of course I pressure tested them prior installation, but simply cant believe they perfrormed worse than OEM...

^ Depends on how much you want to spend! To further stir the pot, here's the 5" Protos on an "800hp" car vs 3.5" CTRs on a 660hp car, both cars running 1.5-1.6 bar of boost, both to 300kph and both within 1C ambient. The 660hp car gets there (100-195mph, both WOT) 0.5s quicker. Bigger isn't always better, but both clobber stock .1s!
Proto 5"
CTR 3.5"
Proto 5"
CTR 3.5"

UK motorsport company that uses HS Marston Aerospace cores. Very similar to Secan but around half the price (somewhere around 10k USD!).

What a quagmire. Do you know what turbos were on the two different cars?

Paul,
I told you again my friend I am still waiting for tires...Trust me when correct size tires are installed Vbox will show differences...Imagine that I reinstalled Remus exhaust to have cars setup same as pre ICs install...By doing so difference of times would be due to ICs and only ICs...So please hold on until pirelli finally imports new tires to Greece...HOpefully on Friday I will have them...

If I understand this thread correctly (a big if LOL), your times might show that 997.2 intercooler is better than than 997.1, but what it won't show is how 997.2 intercooler fares against the "better" after-market intercoolers, no?
In other words, same question remains for those thinking about upgrading. What is "best" still has NOT been defined and the game is not necessarily over?

So in a way it could well be game over for the thread in its current form....and not necessarily game over for all of the different IC offerings. It would appear at this stage the solution for Karims car not the same solution for Skands car even though his IAT's were able to be measured. Thats where the butt dyno may prove to be the ultimate and more reliable judge. Another reason why i would love to hear skands butt dyno impressions at this stage. Not to jump the gun on his times, but more so to get a user gut feel from being in the drivers seat between the back to back testing of the IC's. There would have to be an impression of sorts worthy of mention..

ok...
4)I ve turned my car into an expensive experiment...trying to figure out whether I can make it faster by switching many IC and exhaust brands...But keeping stock VTGs...Hopefully by next week I will have conclusions about 4 different exhausts and four different ICs...Lets see...

You have certainly gone all out here skand in a bid to squeeze that little bit extra performance from your car and APR so i applaud your efforts doing all that and sharing this info even though there has been some close scrutiny which has all gone toward making this a rather interesting thread so far. I honestly hope you get something for all your time, money and efforts but eitherway it doesn't matter if you wound up going a little backwards if the APR tune did not respond as you hoped. What we would really like to hear is a full scoop review and not just simply about the IC Iat data which may or may not amount to performance gains or, better times in Vbox tests when your tyres are eventually sorted. As you saw Karim gave a fairly comprehensive and unashamed explanation to cover his testing so that is all what i was hoping to hear from you by now.....a first hand user impression of the things you have experienced during your testing being in the drivers seat.....good bad or otherwise it doesn't matter.
