2009 Turbo - No suspension changes from 2008?
#2
I was just offered a very nice price on an '09 Turbo. It's a thousand miles away and I have yet to drive a 997.2 TT. All of the test drives so far have been 997.1's.
Previously, I posted a question about the ride quality difference between the 997.1 versus the 997.2 and the responses were that some significant changes were made that make the ride more firm. I wouldn't want a ride that is more firm than the 997.1 (in regular mode).
However, the dealer I just spoke to said the changes to the suspension on the 2009 MY 997.2 were only on the non-Turbo models. He said that it wasn't until the 2010 MY that the the Turbo suspension was updated.
Is that right?

997.2 turbo = 2010 +

2009 tt's have the same motor as the 2008. The DFI 3.8 liter came out with the 997.2 for the Turbos.

997.2 = new DFI engine

2010 is the second generation of 997s, which was designated 997 version 2, shorthand, 997.2. Basically a new engine and PDK tranny with some exterior esthetic changes made it a new version. Its the engine/tranny/LED tail-lights that makes the .1 or .2 designation, not the PCM version.
My 2 cents, if i knew what i know now back then, i would have gotten the 2010 turbo with PDK, and a CAB at that too...

There were 3 changes for 2009 997.1TTs:
- Touchscreen PCM 3.0
- Bluetooth and XM Radio (Probably part of PCM 3.0)
- Revised TPMS system
2009 is an interesting transition year - you still get the race-bred dry sump engine but with brand new technological bells and whistles. No suspension changes though. Cheers, A.

It is unbelievable that Porsche is the only car they sell and have no clue what they are selling. It has happened to me a couple time too. Called by one that said they just got a TT with "charcoal exterior with ZERON lights". Thanks but no thanks.

Its truly astonishing how little some dealers know, or simply try to pass off false information to sell cars. Although on the other hand some salesmen are really intuned with the make they sell, the culture and are more honest then others. The Newark, DE Porsche has a great salesmen like that, a lot of people on the board bought from him.

Also, what did the change improve?

G u right on the money...Most auto sales train their sales people to know as little as possible about the car..In actuality, car sales is just a product of retail. The sale of an auto has nothing to do about the auto and every thing to do with "manipulating" the buyer for selling at the highest scale of the purchase price...starting @ MSRP just to receive an "acceptable" commission.
In order for a sales person to receive an excellent commission, he/she must sell the auto often @ higher than MSRP from either the front end (floor sale) or most often reachable at the back end (Finance) where the "Navy Seals" of the Auto Sales group are trained to "rip your head off" an expression used to rape the buyer.
Let me put it this way from the buyers perspective, even if you THINK you have a great deal on a purchase of a new car... LMAO THINK AGAIN!!
(with exception of high volume auto dealers for "economy cars" where the profit percentages are off set on high volumes of sale ..non-applicable to this exotic auto group)..
