SoCal Repair Shop

So i bought a 2007 Turbo a few months ago. The deal was to hard to pass up. The car is in great condition but always thought it was not as fast. I took it to the Dyno the other day and we couldnt do a complete run because the detonation and studdering. I know the car had a fabspeed exhaust and headers. Doesnt look like any other mods. I believe the car has a GIAC tune but when i had the dealer go through it they flashed it with the latest software which i thought it over wrote the GIAC. So today i drove it and noticed it still is studdering nd i heard detonation so i didnt jump on it. I am looking for a Socal shop that knows these cars in and out, possibly has their own dyno and can tune. I want to find out if the turbos are stock and if so, why its running like crap. You guys know of any good shops in SoCal?

See Tony Callas at Callas-Rennsport. They are factory level and i believe they're the only one in the area with a factory PIWIS 1 scan tool outside of the dealer network.
Plus Tony teaches Porsche training classes as well for the after market- they know their stuff.

How many miles on the car? If you have over 15,000 and have a GIAC flash, your plugs might be toast. There are several good shops you could call. RSS/Stuttgart Performance in Costa Mesa or BBI Autosport in Huntington Beach.

If there is something we can help with just call us, out technician comes factory trained from Porsche and we also use the latest available software in order to determine any issues you may be having, we cured an other 996 this week which was having similar issues, as there are various reasons for the issues you may have it is better for us to plug in and run several test to determine where to begin.

Schedule your check up with us today, no obligation $50 testing is all you'll need to get started, this is waived if you have us perform the needed repairs.

Let me know how we can assist you!

In addition to these 2 recommended by Mike (who "knows" his stuffs), I would also add Lucent, if only for the reason that you might have had a GIAC tune. Tom of Lucent is talented and experienced with Porsche (very much so), and I am extremely happy with all the work that he has done in my car. Because Lucent is a GIAC dealer, Tom should be able to hook you up with GIAC itself to check what exactly is on the DME at this time (I believe (not sure), they could tell by checking your VIN number.). If you are lucky, GIAC might even be sweet talked into doing a custom tune for you (don't know if they do this routinely, just a thought for Austin at GIAC to correct me as needed ):

OT: Hi Mike, what plug problem with GIAC?! Should I be concerned? Mine is at 25k but I haven't noticed any problem. Thanks Mike.

As others have said:

Dwain @ Vision Motorsports in Laguna Hills.

Callas is good too but to far from OC.

I have used both (more Vision) over the past 12 years and have always been extremely satisfied.

Hey Can. First and foremost Happy New Year to ya..

Nothing wrong with a GIAC flash that creates a plug problem. With most tuned turbo's with almost any kind of ECU tune, the stock plugs will start to misfire. Mine did it at around 17000 miles or so. I noticed mine in 4th gear with overboost on. The car would hesitate and buck before it would accelerate. I ended up replacing the plugs with new factory plugs, just gapped lower.
