GT3 v. Turbo ownership

GT3 v. Turbo ownership
I currently own a 2007 turbo. Has anyone traded/sold turbo for gt3? Any regrets? Have my eye on blk/blk 2011. I love to track the car, but in all honesty, only occurs 3-4 times per year at best. I do drive several trips per year at 600 miles each way thru mountains of NC which is a pleasure in turbo. GT3 may be a little less comfortable? Any thoughts? I have only been a passenger in GT3 at a track driven hard in a car biased to track. Thanks

I've owned 2 turbo's now and loved both of them. The straight line acceleration is addictive. I think I will be going for a GT3RS in the future though. Something about an NA motor car wrapped in a track ready package is starting to look very attractive to me.
I think it's at least worth an experience even if you end up coming back to a turbo in the future.

I cannot comment on the maintenance, I have not owned a GT3RS yet.

Better of best worlds - GT2 RS Besides the stifness and the comfort factor, I always found that with the GT3 you always need to be involved with the car where as with the Turbo you can "cruise" as in a sport touring car. I have driven both on long trips (500+ miles) and whereas I could step out of the Turbo and go sit through an opera (for argument sake) getting out of the GT3 required a stretching session. Having said that from a connection to the road and driving experience I liked the GT3.

^^^^Better than better than best of both worlds GT2 RS *and* GT3 RS. LOL and kidding guys.
To original poster: The 2 cars are vastly different and the only solution is either to own both, or to mod the Turbo.
GT3 has NA engine and tremendous reflex and response. Like a nervous cat. It's a 5000 rpm car. Turbo is the better cruiser - much more comfortable, plus you could talk to your wife/SO .
Turbo will blow the GT3 away in the straight; GT3 will annihilate Turbo in the curve. There are 3 solutions:
1. Own both GT3 and Turbo.
2. GT2
3. Mod the Turbo suspension so it comes to some point in between the GT3 and the stock Turbo. Done right, you will be happy for life. Depends on what you are looking for, this solution might be better than GT2 above because you could still have a daily driver (the suspension could be adjusted to your taste).

Thanks for the opinions. A follow up question: Would I be foolish to sell a track oriented 1995 993 and the turbo(which I was not as impressed with at the track-understeer? for the GT3 which may give me the best of both worlds in one vehicle v. two vehicles? I am trying to consolidate. I am more attached to the 993 of the two vehicles.

Oohh I wouldn't touch that 993! Don't think you should sell it.
As special a car the GT3 is (fantastic handling and steering feel, a near perfect track car), it will NOT be the best of both worlds (the GT2 might be, but then it doesn't have the GT3 linear engine response). The GT3 MOST definitely will NOT be a comfortable long distance cruiser. And you will miss the Turbo power. Compared to the Turbo, the GT3 feels like there is no power at all especially below 5000 rpm.
You are close to TPC Racing, aren't you? I would highly recommend that you consider test driving their car. It is a Turbo with a modified Bilstein coilover system (essentially, Bilstein with stiffer front springs and other goodies), and the car has received a tremendous review from people who know about Porsche (Excellence Mag). Very fast at the track yet owners have used similar cars as daily driver. To me, it might be the best of both worlds solution that you are looking for.

I like option #1. Can you lend me some money?

Mike, LOL. Ok how about a used GT3? I am sure the 997.1 GT3 will touch 60k soon enough. But then problem is, I like 997.1 GT3, but I LOVE 997.2 GT3 (better suspension and no unsightly rear Taco wing).
