BorgWarner 997 Turbo Upgrade

BorgWarner the OEM manufacture of 997 turbos has upgrades available now.

For those wanting to go beyond the standard moded turbos we now have an VTG option for big power(70mm or 76mm compressor wheel).

Choice of multiple inducer and A/R.

Pulled this out the catalog available at www.borgwarnerboosted.com

AWE is show as one of the distributors.

AWE/Mike care to shed some light on price/performance

These have been out for a while now. If you compare specs of the EFRs to GTs or Alphas they don't quite match up. For instance EFR7670 only comes in .84 a/r turbine housing not .63. Plus they are not bolt-on but V-band. It will be interesting to see how these compare.

Veracity is infamous around these parts
It looks like the OP is talking about the BV50 VTGs, not EFRs.

I didn't think they made a VTG unit larger than the GT2 turbo.

You're right! Reading comprehension was never my strong suit-- LOL.

It seems like these BV50s have been out even longer rated at 280 hp/turbo. Not seeing the advantage here...

These seem to be the way to go for those seeking power beyond the standard moded VTG's.

I am not took keen on going with the GT30/Tial, too much work BOV', EBC, intake piping and not stock look and feel.

Seem like these are plug and play, I am thinking they should be comparable to GT30 for power potential but less lag due to VTG.

I too did't believe they made VTG's turbo bigger then the GT2's, these seem to be new.

Where did you see the 280hp/turbo figure? These have bigger cold side/hot side with option on the A/R.

Looks like they sell just the turbine housing(part number listed) too and this may be an option to go for those seeing higher topend.

I couldn't read the attachment very well and the BW website you listed does not take you directly to the product. I was too lazy to search through the BW site so I just googled it and found something indicating 200-280 hp but that could be old information. So is this a recent product release? A bigger vtg could be very interesting indeed.

If you download the catalog it is on page 43.

The 260-280 hp figures that I have seen are for the OEM 997.1 Turbo VTG's.

I am hoping Mike/AWE can shed some light on these tomorrow.

Thanks. It looks interesting. I'd like to hear what Mike has to say too. I asked him the other day for specs on the OEM 997.1 vtg such as a/r of the turbine housing. His response is posted below. I'm glad to actually see some real numbers. Now if we can only find out what the OEM specs are to compare.

Unfortunately it is a misprint in the catalog. Those part #s are for S200 turbos which are an older turbo to compete with some of the Garrett offerings.

BW offers two VTG turbos, standard 997TT and GT2 sizes.

Sorry everyone...
