LW Flywheel, Is it worth it?

It is really not that loud at all, probably just unnerving to those who don't understand that the noise is normal behavior.
The only time I ever even think about it is in parking lots when you are going slow enough to put a heavy load on 2nd gear, but too fast to easily shift to first - that's when it catches my attention. I rarely notice it other than that.

I used to have a youtube video of my 997TT with the setup, unfortunately, when I closed my account, the video got zapped.
In summer temps, with the engine warmed up, and AC off - idle is normal. In summer temps, with the engine warmed up, and AC on - sounds like a few nuts and bolts in a coffee can, shake the can. 4th gear, WOT at 2500 RPM (heavy load), again nuts and bolts in a coffee can.
Definitely a try before you buy if the car is a street car. On the track, you probably don't care...the rev matching for shifting is incredibly smooth.
The rattle occurs when the transmission is no longer taut - a dual mass is heavy and vibrations from the engine are not transmitted beyond the dual mass into the transmission. In a LWFW, engine vibrations transmit beyond a very light flywheel and rattle the transmission. No damage, but irritating. Some folks have reported problems with the drive pulley due to vibrations, but I have only seen this in the GT3 (there is a factory bulletin warning that the warranty would be voided to owners who convert a GT3 to a GT3 RS LWFW.)
If you have access to a GT3 RS, the setup I described above is nearly identical in noise.

EXCELLENT Info Bob, thanks so much. I will grab one of my buddies' RS and take it for a ride to see what this rattle sounds like. I really would like the positive benefits of the LWFW. Again, thanks for your knowldege

Todd K, at Protomotive, offers a kit that's excellent!

I have to comment as well. The LWFW is a bit of a double edged sword. While it will certainly make throttle response more lively and allow for easier heel/toe, the gear chatter at idle can be a little much for some.
I had a phone conversation with a client the other day. I was trying to describe the noise at idle. He asked if it would sound like a Ducati Motorcyle. I told him that is exactly how it would sound and that it's a perfect example. For those into bike, that might put things into perspective.
Just from experience, we sell more clutch kit without flywheels then with. That Sachs 2.5that we sell is extremely popular. If you are interested in a flywheel, we sell the Aasco brand. They are the "go to" guys.
If anyone wants to chat further, shoot me an email.

It is the same setup that Ruf Dallas recommended. Feel is very close to stock, but it does rattle.

If you have never driven a car equipped with a LWFW, it is definite "try before you buy" item. Sachs "2.5" and a Aasco LWFW is a good setup. Mike, this was on your AWE750 997.1TT for a while, right?

Here is some info as well that I don't think has been posted before.
The Sachs 2.5 that we have been selling consisted of 973 disc and the 764 cover.
As per a conversation I had with Sachs Racing minutes ago, they have gone to a new part number for the disc.
(881864 0001098)
So I asked what was changed.
They told me that they wanted to use the same disc for both their 764 and 752 cover.
So there you have it!

C2 are great. Chris and crew have done both easy and complicated jobs for me. They are a trusted partner...

Lwfw
Loved the performance of the LWFW on my tuned car. It did quiet down a bit when the AC was on, which was 90% of the time in ATL. The chatter was not a big deal while in gear, in motion. As several have stated the revs go up faster (and it is awesome), but come down just as fast, and in heavy traffic it can be a PITA. All that said, ultimately, there were times when I really hated driving the car due to the chatter. Turbos don't sound great anyway, even with exhaust, and it just sounded like azz while at idle.
You really should try to drive a LWFW car before buying. I know you are on a deadline, but this is the ONLY mod on any daily driver car I've every regretted.
