Me to, that car did alot of things well. I had a tubi rumore on mine and it screamed, the turbo's exhaust is eh..even with an aftermarket system. Don't get me wrong, I am in love with my turbo.

I'm a little surprised that an M5 with exhaust can keep up with a 997 Turbo...unless the driver of the Turbo sucks *** at shifting.

You have got to respect the E60 M5. I too had one, bought brand new in June 2008, and then traded for my X5M (POS). I miss it all the time.

Great car and I actually loved the transmission in the thing. Fast, and great top end range. It was listed, at one point, as the 19th fastest production vehicle in the world.

Launching the 997 TT 6-speed vs M5/M6 (SMG) from a dead stop I can see where the skill of the P driver really needs to be top class. Otherwise I don't get it. I owned an M6 with some slight mods and while really really fast, it just wasn't quite TT fast. Now perhaps I'm now used to my Switzer mods and have happily forgotten what a stock TT is like

As FloridaBMW points out the sound of that v10 ( mine had Eisenmann Sport cat back), was intoxicating. Even at low speeds, I'd drop the windows to listen to the F1 pops and shreik of that engine. Ah if only my TT could have that sound.... Even with headers and tuned 200 cell cats (all Switzer), there's more whooooosh, that scream. But the TT is just such a better (sports) car all round than the m6 (GT car).

I have both and it looks like a pretty accurate race to me. Both are stock except for exhaust. The disadvantage of the M5 is low end torque. The rolling start eliminates this. The SMG is a great tranny and shifts are much faster than a mannual 997tt. From a dead stop the 997 should win but over 120 mph I would expect the M5 to catch up and probably pass. The PDK is a different story. The Vette - no contest, unless it's a newer Z06 or ZR1.
