My experience with 997TT and 2011 "S"

Hi

As I understand it, "S" variants are made a limited duration of time, and in the past this duration has coincided with the end of a life cycle for that particular Porsche model. I've read that spare HP parts are used to build "S" models... to use up those previously ordered high-end parts.

What intrigues me about this line is the notion that in 2012, the 911 frame and engine mounts are going to change enough to make a comparison to the 2011 models (turbo and "S") distinctive.

The 2012 might just have refinements ;like I've noticed in just one generation of car: I owned a 2007 997Turbo in 2009 and bought the "S" this summer. I drove both cars from Wyoming to Laguna Seca and the "S" is all-round a better package- not just more powerful. It is refined. I've never - ever- felt AWD on toe-in with the "S" and on state highways in the 997, it was always there.

The jump from 997 to 2010 and 2011 platform is an amazing and refined improvement of the 997.
(what I thought in 2009 was the best car I'd ever driven, any distance, any speed. I've been lucky enough to drive 18 or 20, different models, top end cars.) The GT3 is the top for tracking. But the "S" is the perfect for everything else, day or night, hundreds of miles...a thousand... a day.

Hmm. so does it mean that the 991 will actually be a MY2013 then? Since we will still be seeing 2012 997?

There won't be many though and I doubt there is any changes whatsoever, just Porsche milking the system with the 997 as much as they can

Or maybe even '14 I was told. I highly doubt there will be any differences in the '12 and the '11. It's just simply they can't release a '11 car in a '12 model year. It might have affected resale however it's not like the 11's are abundant, especially coupes in normal color combos. There won't be hardly any '12's built to cause a major difference there either I don't think. it's still disconcerting however. You can thank the new President for this...

I have an April built 2011 S incoming, makes me wonder if delaying it by a month may be worth it just to get MY2012.

That's possible, but not necessarily. Don't forget, Porsche's been known to do quirky things in the past (I know, different ownership). Such as the Model Year 1998 993's in the US being built simultaneously as the ROW 996's. Or how about the model year 1976 914s built at the same time as the one year only impact bumper 912's. Over the years Porsche's done some strange things to get rid of old stock.

Spoke to my dealer, Porsche of Roslyn on Long Island and he confirmed that his dealer got 2 build slots for 2012 Turbo S's. I told him that i thought that the 2011 would be the only year it is offered. At the time he to0ld me that, it was what he had been told. My sales guy is straight up and has not waivered in any of the dealings. I believe him 100%. Looks like there will be 2012 Turbo S's-At least a few.

I spoke with Newport Beach Porsche and just to confirm the 2012 Turbo will be 997 based not 991? I am getting ready to place my order but wanted clarification first. A little off topic, on the cab is the rear window glass or plastic?

They did the same thing with the 928 GTS's back in '93. They ended up meeting demand by releasing a few GTS's in '94, no changes though.

The problem is they simply can't release any car past April thats not a '12, changes aside...

And no, this is not the 991. It's not even out yet. In fact because it's still in development and not going to be released until next year now is exactly why they're releasing more "S"'s to fill in the blank. The factory has to have something to do until then.

the 2011/12 turbo S is so good there is no point in waiting and missing two years of amusement. i never liked the 2007 turbo i bought but my 2011 is much better.

it is a superb road tripper, bad weather, dirt/gravel and around towner....

my dealer expects the new one in calendar 2014

My C2S that is due for late June / early July delivery will be a 2012.

The end of 997.2 production is very near

Now that several of you have received your 2012 Turbo S, can we finally get an answer to this question? Are there any changes, or are the 2011/2012 identical?

I think (based on the VIN code on my recent purchase of 997 Turbo S) that the 2012 model year is out already.

I think the existence of a 2012 Turbo S is not up for debate... They are definitely out there... the question is if they vary from the 2011 in any way.
