First Gemballa, Now Hamann.... Dead

"Hamann Motorsport and Tuning founder Richard Hamann has passed away at the age of 53.
The sad news was first reported by Jon Sibal who wrote poignantly that he was "in disbelief
of this sad news...Richard certainly made a big impact in the scene and will surely be missed
in the tuning world."
A press release by Hamann Motorsport GmbH, the tuning and racing company Hamann founded
back in 1986, said that he died on March 17, 2011 due to a severe illness (lung cancer), one
month shy of his 54th birthday.
The team has promised to run the company as per Hamann's wishes.
Hamann Motorsport has partcipated in over 700 races, with 300 podium finishes and 103 victories."

RIP

Hamann's racing career was the stuff of legends. Thousands of laps in fierce competition. Many victories! RIP.

In the end it was Richard's smoking habit that did him in. Very sad indeed.

I have seen the ravaging effects of what tobacco can do to a person firsthand. My Father was totally depleted by the coupling of cigarettes and alcohol. He looked 98+,, thin, gaunt, fragile and despondent when he passed away in my hand eleven years ago at a young age of 64.

My truest thoughts and prayers go out to all of his friends and grieving family member in this time of sorrow. The emptiness is indescribable .

What a legacy. My he rest is peace away from his tormented body.

Thread title is a little misleading.... Uwe's death was under much different circumstances.

At least he left a mark for all us car guys to remember him by. Hopefully his company continues its success.

Of course, you are correct. Uwe Gemballa was brutally murdered by criminals in South Africa. Richard Hamann died of natural causes.
