My 40th birthday gift from my wife

When we were looking (summer 2010) you could not get the heated steering wheel and the paddleshift pdk wheel. You had to get the buttons. I would make sure the buttons are really what you want. Hopefully they have changed this.
In my opinion, ceramic brakes aren't bad if you are not tracking Replace the pads as needed and the rotors should last a long time.
I prefer the 5 bolt wheels but I would not completely discount the centerlocks, if you find the right car for you that has them. Just have the dealer include the breaker bar and Porsche torque wrench for the central nut.

I concur with the Turbo S suggestion. I was actually in the same boat about 2 months ago, I ordered a "regular" Turbo with most of the same options you ordered and after thinking about it for a month, I changed the order to an S. I would have saved a few dollars if I started my negotiation with an S and not changing it after the order was placed though.

Everytime I see pccb in a thread, I had to give my $.02. I hate it. It squeals, it screams, it squeaks, and it's annoying! Oh, it's also embarrassing pulling up to a stop and the guy next to you gives you that "what the heck was that noise" look.

Hi Woot --
Ever since we chatted you got me thinking about the PDK Turbo and even though I tend to spend a lot of time in the 997 section .. I love my Turbo . In fact had I left it stock and if the deals on the 997S weren't so great back in 09 I would have bought a Turbo S. I think the extra 30 Hp and options are worth the cost difference.
I also would have bought it in Gt silver or Meteor .. but lean more toward silver . It looks like a spaceship (in my opinion) .
That said .. I will answer your questions and bold my answer in color for viewing ease .
1) I will lose money on the deal that would occur when I trade in my pristine '09 C4S but from a cost to benefit ratio do you think I would regret moving into a TT from a C4S (I know I should not even be asking this question but I really want to know given how great the C4S is the TT that much superior package or will I be saying lifelong "man it's great but not really worth the 20K that I lost on the C4S trade").
This is a very personal financial decision . I traded my 997S in 07 that was only 5 months old and I am so glad I bought my Turbo but I can understand the struggle with trading in a pristine car . It's sounds so irrational yet it makes emotional sense but that is the nature of Porsches in general . The car provides an emotional and visceral drive and that's why practical thinking is difficult to apply .
So hell yeah .. I like the Turbo S.
But I'd also respect and even admire the person who saves the money in favor of logic .
2) How does 5% off sound for a custom build ?
It's reasonable but get it in writing on the contract along with a timeline with a full refund clause if it's not met.
3) How are you all liking my performance heavy and fluff light build. Please bear in mind that all though I should have spent some time going through prior posts on this section, I have not spent any time at all. As you can imagine "too many sections to cover ... too little time". Thank you for your time and input as always.
Drive the car . It's night and day to a C4S . The car is more quiet and luxurious while at the same time has this sledgehammer type of acceleration . The normally aspirated car has a seamless but weak (in contrast) acceleration . The Turbo feels more like an aircraft where the impellar of the turbo homogenizes the sound wave . The momentary turbo lag is followed by this huge thrust which mates beautifully with PDK in the upshifts . It really is an amazing car .

Turbo > C4S in every way imaginable, including long term desirability/value you will never regret it. The C4s is just a slower CarreraS (due to weight).
From what I read, torque vectoring is a big plus. Not sure if that's an independent option. I wouldn't order a new car without it.
Finally, if your cost is creeping up, I would absolutely move up to an S. If you're totally opposed to ceramic brakes, you can easily swap to metal discs and either store the ceramics or get $5,000 + for them.
IMO there are only 2.5 reasons to buy a new 911 turbo:
1. PDK
2. Torque vectoring
2.5 S - if you're the chipping kind, the biggest value with an "S" is if it comes with bigger turbos and resale value.
I consider myself a value biased hobbyist. I NEED the turbo/GTx, but want a good deal. If I was buying today, I would buy a used under 5K miles 997 GT2. At ~110-130K it's the best long term value.
Agree with poster above get a written contract that includes a timeline and cost. You need a cashed deposit (consideration) to make it an enforceable deal. Anything else isn't legally binding in most states

Great suggestions, responses..why am I not surprised. yrralis1, you are a class act. Thank you for the input. A little update guys. My custom order is not going that well. The powers to be have rejected my offer and will at the most discount 5.5 K off a 154K custom order and will give me 5K less than what I wanted on my C4S. My attention is now one this one. Trying to see if they can knock off 6 to 7% off MSRP and get me a little closer to the numer I want for the trade in. I would love to hear your thoughts on the car, the color combo and am I being unreasonable on the 7% off MSRP irrespective of the trade in value. Silver and red has always been my favorite although my wife wants me to get a MG/red coz she believes that it is a better contrast.

If this is a car on the lot, the advantage goes from them to you. With car dealers I have pretty much given them my bottom line, with only a little "budge" room. This is a 2011 model and the 2012 models are now being ready to order. tell them what YOU want and see if they want to trade. You are buying a buck and a half car with last years model year. my experienxce is they don't like to let them sit. it affects teir allocation assignmnet. just give them the figure where you want to be and see if they can't get there.
good luck..that's a nice looking car

I would check out an S. you'll get most of the stuff on your list in the base price, plus another 30HP. Make sure that you order the paddle shifters for the PDK, the regular steering wheel buttons are useless. If you don't opt for the S, make sure that you get the Sport Chrono package. Also, if it's going to be a daily driver and you're a bigger framed guy, you may prefer the comfort seats. The adaptive seats are really tight for anyone over 170lbs.
As for the fluff- get what you want. I's your car, get it you way- what's a few grand more in the big picture?
Congratulations and enjoy!

Thank you for all the responses guys. After much of the endless mental debate, I've decided that for now I am going to enjoy my current 911s (the C4s and 3.2). The 63K delta that I am looking at for the trade in of my pristine 11K mile C4S for this car http://colorado-springs.porschedeale...24598/info.php or a 72K delta for a custom order TTS or TT is by no means a fiscally sound decision. Thank you for all the replies. I don't think I will regret this decision....or will I

Wow, let me know when you come down off the adrenaline rush! lol. I just purchased my first car, and I can't imagine standing down after doing all that homework...
Good luck, and I'm sure you'll love your car for as long as you want to drive it...

15 months ago I had never driven a Porsche, now I have three fantastic cars one classic, one PDK all weather high performance car with all the right performance/suspension options and a family hauler loaded with all the acronyms one would want (PASM, AS, PDCC, PTV) for a "large 911 feel". I thought that it is high time that I took a step back, slowed down and enjoy what I have and save the 60K for tires, twice a year oil changes, insurance, fuel etc. My C4S had a MSRP of 126K ( over that I spent some big $$ to wrap the entire car in paint protection film) and now I was offered 80 K for the trade in. I have never driven a turbo, but I think I would regret my decision of just flushing $$$ down the drain. trsut me I do a lot of reasearch before buying a particular model. I did do a lot of ground work for the TT/TTS but this time (for the first time) did not pull the trigger. I still love my C4S and am not ready to part with it. I decided to stay with three great cars and held off on a supercar. Once again thank you for all the input.
