2012 RE-11 UPDATE:

This last set had been installed on 01.13.2012 with 19,320 on the odometer. Proving to yield consistent results both for mileage and track performance. Although they did see less track time over my last set.

10 Months and 10,000 miles later
Two half rain days at Laguna
Two full days at Thunderhill

Hmmmm, should I try something different or stick with these. Keep in mind the RE-11's are seeing less track time because I'm addicted to the R6's for dry track conditions.

Below are a few sub $1500 options from TR:

Toyo Proxes 1's ($1,408)
Toyo R888's ($1,424)
Hankook Ventus R-S3 ($1,558)
MPSS's ($1,390)
RE-11's ($1,370)

What is the mileage warranty? Does it include track time?

That warranty won't be worth the paper it's written on once they determine you have been 'abusing' them. That even means too spirited street use.

As long as you are just considering one of these for 'damp' days it's hard to go wrong with the 11's and you are already familiar with their characteristics.

Having said that I would imagine any of those choices would work about the same in 'damp' conditions so considering the 11's have at least 1/2" less tread width that other 305's why not give the PSS's a try. They get EXCELLENT wet and dry marks at TR.

Hey B,

I know the MPSS's have received great reviews, however they have a UTQG rating of 300 (vs 180 of the RE's), which in turn could increase longevity. Unfortunately I have an event this coming Sunday, closing out our season and rain is in the forecast. I would hate to try something new and then regret the decision. After reading all the TR reviews in detail, I think I may have to pull the trigger on the RE-11s. Although this time around I think I'll mix it up a bit and run 245's up front. I checked with TR on Friday and the 325's are currently back ordered for 6 weeks+???.

I'm bummed with the timing/season (rainy here on the West coast). Of the tires I listed above I really want to try the R888's, which are finally in stock and available in our sizes. However, the R888's are NOT recommended for wet weather use

D, we should talk...I have both tires. MPSS on my Turbo and RE-11's on my Scuderia. Honestly I think the RE-11's are good tires but the MPSS IMHO are better in terms of predictability. The RE-11's are not as predictable in terms of overall road feel. I would say that the MPSS's are better for road use and the RE-11's better for the track.

VID- worth checking Costco, recently saw they were offering 11s in my stock turbo size. They may have inventory elsewhere they can ship in for you.

Hoping we can use out track tires for Sears on Sunday. Unfortunately my new PFCs won't be in so will need to go with CCarbons one more time in the front.

Kind of hard to believe that UTQG rating of 300 can get the reviews the PSS's are getting for dry and wet traction but there it is. They must be doing something right.

I wasn't aware the 11's came in 325. The one drawback to the 11's is their narrow'ish tread compared to other tires (in 305 anyway).

Sooner or later you are going to have to try something new and it might as well be now. The PSS's have an outstanding wet rating. Crap, I'm starting to convince myself into getting them next...maybe.

I would think you would prefer the more predictable tire for the track...unless that predictability comes in so early as to be virtually useless at the track.

The RE-11's hold better on the track if that makes sense..especially around the corners but once they let go, it's not as predictable as the MPSS. So it depends on what you prefer. I prefer the "safer" nature of the MPSS myself for the streets/track. Also, the RE-11's are a bit heavier too and as we all know, weight is the enemy.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the feed back! I must say I had my mind made up on Friday for the tire of choice. However, Saturday evening you all got my mind running in circles and by Sunday I was completely dumbfounded.

Knowing I had to make a decision today in order to have the tires here and mounted before the weekend, I pulled the trigger on what I am familiar with and what I know works well for my vehicle and self confidence in the rain, should the rain come.

BRRacing will have the tires in tomorrow morning and mounted by 2:00...gotta love that kind of turn-around!!!

TIRES: RE-11's
SIZE: 245/35/19 & 305/30/19

I promise you, I will try something different next time around. If rain wasn't in the forecast, think I would have done the MPSS's.

RUF, TR was advertising RE 325's in the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports...as mentioned, currently out of stock, they did have the 245's in stock though

A-80: I hear what you are saying. RE's are actually for my wet weather track tires and then DD'ing in that order. My DD'ing is to SB's and back every day. They are also my commute tires for track events.

EH: Costco? Really....I can't stand even pulling into that shopping complex....what a zoo! I hope you get everything together in time for the weekend! I'll let you test your car/wheels with the Costco mechanics first!

Cheers,
VID

haha, same here. They managed to scratch a friend's 14" 2002 Camry wheel, while putting on a set of crappy tires, no way would I trust those guys with a low profile/stiff and still sideway set of Porsche wheels!

Luckily I checked a bit closer and they (Costco) only had fronts in my size- so still on the look out for a set of good all-weather tires. Tracking with Hankook V12s in the rain isn't horrible but now where as good as those RE-11s.

Did you check and see if they had any 19 inch tires available, and if so how is the pricing compared to TR?
