Rain & Shine at LS with RE-11s

R6's = Addictive! Once you go there you won't want to go back to street tires!!!
RE-11's = Will always continue to impress you. It is just amazing to me how good of a street tire they are and how well they perform on track. Not to mention seeing 10,000 plus miles out of a set.
Below is the original write-up / thoughts in regards to my first R6 outing...I'd have to say 2 years later I still feel the same way.
Have fun, be safe, and enjoy!

Well is wasn’t the best day for playing. Overcast and wet almost the entire day, even a shower or two, never saw the sun. I was able to mount up the Hoosiers R6’s after lunch and 17 minutes into the session it poured down on us.
I must say the first thing I noticed with HR6s is how much smoother and compliant they are over street tires. They seem to take a lot of the harshness and edginess out of the ride and made the car feel like one integrated package. Everyone always raves about the grip...and yes the grip is amazing...but the overall ride and increased breaking performance is what struck me first. It was apparent to me within just the first 3 turns...incredable. Coupled with the R6’s mounted to GT2 wheels I added 7mm spacers to all four corners which Shiraaz at Champion Motorsports was able to supply for me (thanks again CMS!). It seemed like these really helped alleviate the inherent understeer of TT’s. Although hard to say with the R6’s now up front. Ended up going with 235/35‘s and 315/30’s in the rear. So far so good.

Decided I better pull the wheels off and get a better look, not to mention clean things up a bit.
ugh!
Both fronts have blown out...not one bit too happy... Not only do I have to deal with this, but my clutch has decided to retire as well after 34,000 miles of abuse.

Cheers EuroTom- practice practice practice. I improve by a second or two every-time I go. Yep Laguna turn pipes are a must. I sported a new set and didn't have any issues. I was hoping to see your ride at Laguna. Hopefully next time- free beer... I'm in!

Vid- that really blows! With the clutch job planned will you be pinning/welding coolant lines at same time? As long as your at it how about a pair of larger snails?

VID which clutch are you planning to go with?

Sorry to hear about the blown clutch and blown shocks D.
I believe this was your last event of the season too wasent it ?
I'm sure your car will be stronger and faster when it comes back.
I'm sure you also have a few items up your sleeve

^^^ Thanks E.
Last event for our summer break. Time to let the Pro's dominate our local tracks during the golden months of summer.
Indeed, just a few items...you know me too well my friend!!!

34K miles and my clutch is DONE:
Back in for more work. New 999 Motorsports clutch, pressure plate, etc, and a Aasco Al Flywheel, front shock re-builds and dyno testing, new rear tires, and just a few more suspension bits to finish off the package. Hopefully, other than pads, I should be able to finish off the season!

car looks like a BEAST, glad to see this car being used in its element.....on the track!
I just bought a set of re11 for my 997tt (experience with re11 on my old bmw m car). I tracked today with oem ps2 which were OK, but left a bit to be desired towards the end of each session. cant wait for my re11.
great thread, gl with the rest of track season!

Numeric shifter, cup cables, and new tranny mount- Vid this thing is really getting sorted out. Have heard nothing but greatness from that shifter. Looking forward to your feedback. I remember you were a big fan if your motor mounts so this will complete that setup.
Congrats and looking forward to the review-

I cannot believe this....my shocks are getting covered under WARRANTY! They should be back at BRR tomorrow!!!
I'm in shock!!!
Clutch, shifter, and miscellaneous parts have been slowly arriving day by day this week. Hopefully she'll be back on the road next week sometime.

Okay, something completely different from me. First NASCAR event in nearly 20 years. When I first moved to CA...the first race event I attended was a NASCAR Race at Sears.
My, have times changed in the NASCAR world and at Infineon, I mean Sears, oh ...I'm sorry, I mean Sonoma Race Way. Nonetheless...still a great day. Much different scene compared to that of ALMS, Historic's, World Superbike, AMA Pro Racing, and the Indy Car scene, but still entertaining.
Give it a listen and turn up volume!
