Fuel efficiency issues 2007 Turbo

Hi All... curious to get some ideas as to why my average fuel economy/efficiency is averaging around the 13.3mpg mark. Granted I do more city driving than highway, however over the last month I've been rather careful, watching the "heavy foot" to see just how economical I can get her. Unfortunately this hasn't helped much... still sitting in the low 13mpg (according to the on board computer).

Can any one offer any advice what may be causing this, what can be checked or done to improve this or is this to be expected from 67.000 km Turbo? Also I am running only 94 octane fuel, with full techart exhaust, 200 Cats - if that helps. WOuld be great to hear how economical your cars are running.

Thanks!

I get about 14 mpg normally and I don't get stuck in traffic. I drive on open road all the time with probably around 20% freeway.

Wifes 2011 911tt is her DD. She averages about 17mpg with a mix of city/highway. On the highway it does about 20mpg.

This is actual measurement odo vs fuel pumped. Those on-board computer readings have never been very good in our experience. And before you flame me, some people have good luck with them, we haven't. Best most reliable method is to make actual readings and do the math yourself.

Yeah, I'm also averaging around 17mpg when incorporating 50/50 highway/city. Still seems much lower than manufacturer standards. Is this something to be expected with a higher millage turbo?

I think it has a lot to do with fuel. The more ethanol they add the lower the mpg's. I've seen this with all of our cars. There's less energy in a gallon of ethanol than a gallon of gas. And some of those "blends" that regional EPA's require hurt that as well. That's why gas in CA just sucks.

For the last 9.7k miles (last reset at oil change) it averaged 18.8 MPG. Normal driving, 60/40 highway vs. city. I've gotten as high as 24 MPG on a trip and as low as 8 MPG running around the city.

13 mpg is not that bad if you live in Vancouver. I get around 14 in city.
I use Chevron 94 only.

Did you get the Techart locally?

The stop lights r gonna kill ur average. I get 18 mpg with 75% hwy driving. I use mostly Shell 93 with 10% ethanol.

Thanks guys. Highest I've seen it was at 18mpg on a 2 day highway stint on Vancouver Island. I'm assuming she's performing (somewhat) within the range then.

BCNeil, ...as myself - Chevron 94 only, anything less and the O2 sensors trigger CEL's from the TechArt high flow cats. I use Weissach for all my service/mods - guys there are just fantastic. Have being using them for about 10 years, and nothing but good things to say about them! As a matter of fact I'm dropping her off there on Thursday to get a set of Bilsteins fitted.

I think it has more to with your foot, i.e. driving style. I can get anywhere from 8mpg to 22mpg depending on the foot.

Definitely the driving style and number of stoplights, i.e. time spent idling.

I took this picture while driving from east central FL down to the Sunrise area on I-95 using cruise control set to 74 mph. Trust me, this took a lot of self control. I was doing it because my daughter (we bought her an '09 Honda Fit) was telling me my car was not "eco-friendly", so this was my way of replying to that statement. The real gas mileage was about 25.2 mpg IIRC, but it got the point across to her.

I think both the foot and gas theory are correct. I've had my car for 4 years now and I have never been able to get better than 14mpg. And yes, I have a heavy right foot and I live in CA, so the gas is crappy too...

I get over 20mpg since going to 60 lb injectors

Of course the computer only thinks I'm getting 20 mpg because it has no idea the injectors are bigger.

around 15.8-16 in the commute, which is mostly city and some traffic. Got 28 on the hwy last week, which blew me away. tend to get 22-23 on trips, as bad as 12 blasting around.
