turbo PDK or 997.2GT3

UK roads are far from Autobahn smooth. The TT will be vastly superior on the street; especially since you're only doing a few track days per year. You will thank yourself for PDK in London traffic.
Also, why not consider a PDK GTS or CS? More forgiving than a GT3 on the street, PDK convenience and fun on track too. I like the paddle shifts on a CS PDK I drove - quick response and no "money shift" worries lol

I agree with TT Surgeon - in the hands of an average driver a 997TT is significantly more usable power/handling than a 997GT3. If you ever want to drive in the rain/snow or shuttle kids around (as I did this morning), the 997TT is hard to beat. My 2 cents.

Me, eh, for a DD, I'd do the 997.2 TT and call it a day (or two). The GT3 is more of a one -off track car that yes, sounds and handles fantastic. BUT, and this is important, if its a DD and you want to be able to beat the tar out of any car you'll encounter off the digg or in the qtr, short of an Aventador or Veyron, the TT is the way to go. With that you'll fear nothing and have a great reliable TT to boot and in all weather. You'll see in the article that the Cayman R did BETTER in the one mile rain soaked test and thats gotta tell you something about the GT3 in weather...............

Fatty, a LOT of your questions about whether your Cayman S will handle like the GT3 are answered in the latest Car and Driver July 2011 article about the handling of the Cayman R to the GT3.

guys ... thanks for the reply
i manage to test a 997 GT2 today. Wow, all i can say is that the car was damn FAST
i didn't drive it hard but the demo driver did. i took a slow drive to have a feel of the clutch, gear & ride comfort at slow speed. honestly, the clutch wasn't that heavy and gear change was really short & precise. suspension was hard. the car came with clubsports option and the GT2 seat felt really good.
but for the same price i could also buy a newer PDK turbo which looks better inside but the exterior styling of GT2 is better. but the GT2 without LED lights like in gen2 997 just looks way outdated.
when u gun it hard, the sound of the turbo sucking in the air was just awesome & wicked!!!
it is recommended to use PS cup tyres on the GT2 all the time and also the GT2 sits way much lower. we passed a few speed bumps & the lower lips scrapped the bumps. Cup tyres r awesome heated up on the track but maybe not practical for daily use.
guess i'm most likely going to pick up a lightly used 997.2 PDK turbo. A new turbo S is on waiting list & only will be able to get a unit in 2012. maybe by then, new 991 would another option
THX!

not sure if the handling of a turbo is as good as gt2 or gt3?
does the turbo use gt3/2 lower control arms?
what kind of camber settings can the turbo achieve?
what about brake cooling ducts? does the turbo have similar systems as the gt3/2?

Whoa... No, the Turbo is not a GT2 or GT3 (but good enough, in my opinion). Are you suggesting that your abilities are beyond the stock 911 Turbo? If so, my hat's off to you.

That slight bit of ADD makes me think about all the great choices in recent Porsches out there. It's easy to see why we can get seesawing from one to the other: GT3...oh, that exhaust, raw feel....Turbo Gen1 6spd...love that boost, and comforts...Turbo Gen2 PDK....oh so easy in traffic, no over revs...and the GT2...wow!!!

I realize the TT is probably more practical in the streets, but I have driven both the GT3 and Turbo enough to know that I prefer the GT3 for the fun factor. The turbo is an epic street machine, but it just didn't do it for me like the GT3. It's all a matter of taste. Get what floats your boat, but test them extensively before deciding.

I had a 11 GT3 for 3800 miles as my DD.I loved everything about it, but my back did not.
Just traded it in on a 11 Turbos Cab. It's night vs day. the GT3 is a beast. Very precise. The sound is awesome.
The Turbo S is a horse of a different color. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Driving this car is like playing a video game. You push the gas and a paddle and you broke at least 4 laws.
If you are looking for a DD. The Turbo or the S are the answers.
I will miss the 6 speed however.
Picks to come.
Good luck in what ever you choose.
Cheers
