Escort 9500ci installation and warranty

Will the custom installation of an Escort 9500ci affect any part of the warranty? I also have Fidelity service plan in addition to the Porsche's new car warranty if it makes a difference at all.

Adding one more question: What is the penalty for laser diffuser usage in CA?

I take it that in your opinion a simpler hardwired 9500ix may be a better choice? (Especially taking warranty into account?)

I actually only want some basic protection; no plan to speed much on the road but want to be aware of it since this car is just way too fast. (Am I allowed to say that here? ) My other reason for the 9500ci is for concealment since I do not want to have to unplug/plug in the detector every time I get in and out of the car.

As an aside: We are extensive testers of radar and laser jamming systems. We DO NOT recommend the 9500ci for anything other than radar (or use the 9500ix, even better - higher in car). The Escort and K40 dual laser jamming and radar detector systems rank the lowest in Laser Jamming. The LI, and Laser Defense Pro fair MUCH MUCH better.

I had a 9500ci installed and somehow the installer cut the cable to my NAV antenna! My car kept telling me I was in the Atlantic Ocean after it was damaged!

I didn't realize it had been cut by the installer as I rarely use the Nav. So, when I noticed it acting up, I took it in thinking it was a warranty issue. My Porsche service guy showed me that it was damaged and that pulling off a piece of the plastic under the hood to access the areas to fish wires likely pulled and damaged the wire.

So, no my warranty wasn't voided but it wouldn't cover the repair (of course). So, I took it back to my installer with a new cable I picked up from the dealership ($40) and the installer replaced it - all is perfect.

That said, the 9500ci is low profile. That was my primary need. I have the display in my ash tray, the LED in my instrument cluster and the control buttons to the right side of the steering column - completely out of view but easily accessed by the driver. You don't even know it is there unless you are told where to look.

I have been lasered, while speeding, 3-4 times and so far no tickets. I find the radar works well, too.

I'm more interested in good performance without anything sitting on my dash. I'm happy with it.

Sounds interesting. Do you happen to have any pictures of the installation? TIA.

laser jammers

Been using escort laser jammers since '08, stopped twice and visually inspected, both times the ca chp must not have recognized the diffusers,
no tickets. Btw, no mention of missing front license plate either!

Believe the fine for having more than 3 jammers/diffusers on your TT, increases substantially in CA. With this additional fine on top of the original ticket can be substantial. Best is not to drive faster than the
posted speed limit.

I believe the Escort system has only 3 jammers and 1 detector? Also, I just found out that having 4 or more jammers is a misdeanor and infraction otherwise.

I think CHP is less "sensitive" to the missing front plate but the city cops (esp SFO) is more draconic about it since the red light camera needs the front plate to ticket you properly.

What I have done is forgo the rear shifter and ran the wires to the front of the car (had to leave the rear shifter plugged in, in the mean time, but hid it behind the front bumper). I'm waiting for another order of a front shifter to arrive and then reconnect the rear wiring which is now in the front to a third front shifter, and get rid of the rear shifter.

I find that the rear shifter is a dead give away - sticks out like a sore thumb and who shoots lasers at your rear anyway :P

No problems with warranty and it's perfectly hidden away inside.
