Worry about red llning in a PDK?
Finally have broken in my engine @ 2000 miles. Have been having fun in Sport mode and punching the gas... The acceleration is intoxicating!! I scared the crap out of my work buddy today as we left lunch as I put the pedal to the floor !
Was wondering... I saw the RPMs go to 7400 (red) before I knew it! I switched gears thinking I'd be around 6800 but it went further (to 7400).
Am I OK or is there damage if this is done over and over!?
But what a blast!

PDK will not over rev . In fact it will even ignore an error shift which would cause an over rev .
In the event that the RPM hits the rev limiter the fuel will cutoff . BTW .. the fact that the car won't over rev is (in my opinion) makes the PDK one amazing component in terms of protecting engine wear.
Here is an old article when it first came out http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/20/f...ra-s-with-pdk/
Here's a quote from the article above--
"On the road circuit, the Carrera S with PDK was a whole different animal. While the PDK selector can be moved to "manual" mode, we found ourselves bouncing off redline/fuel cutoff coming out of the corners (PDK will not select the next gear in manual mode). We instead chose to leave PDK in Drive, the "Sport Plus" button activated, and the PASM in sport mode. "

Someone once told me that "you can break the rule without breaking the car....just don't make a habit out of it". I plan on making my first Porsche a 997 that is equipped with the PDK. Great info here.
