I guess it would be if I wasn't so confused about why me owning a certain car had anything to do with this subject...

At no point did I ever question the ability of either a driver or a vehicle to be successful at this event (please don't display the same amount of illiteracy as speed21). I questioned what Porsche stands to gain (related directly to their publicly released statement).

...and at first you were wondering why Speed had to stoop so low huh, guess it didnt take that much for you to either.
You've been on this forum for a while man, good rep and all, ease up. You know better.
Anyways, to answer your question (even though its been stated 10 times in this thread) as to why Porsche is entering the car in the Pikes Peak, the simple truth IS, why not? Its a race, it tests the cars capabilities, it gives them a different variation of racing, it gives them more publicity, it helps advance the cars profile as an accomplished Pikes Peak racer in addition to all the other venues, its really a win win win on all accounts.
The question is, why are you so hung up about it?

BTW Bob, great thread, love watching the Pcars going up the mountain, Zwart is a beast

I love all motor sports (from monster trucks to MotoGP, D-1 to F-1, NASCAR to ALMS, and everything in between). I'm aware that it takes an insane amount of skill and equipment to not only complete the trek safely, but be successful at it as well. Porsche released a statement that they want to display not just the performance, but the reliability of the cars, too. I can't think of a better display of reliability than the 24hr of Le Mans, can you? If there is, please educate me. I only follow rally racing as much as American TV allows me too (I wish there was more coverage - I loved following Sebastian Loeb - the things he did in a car amazed the crap out of me).
I know Seb drove a Citroen, instead of a GT-R, but I'm still a fan for some reason.
My only question was - according to their statement (and already competing in the 24hr races), what display of reliability do they expect to show?
I thought it was a simple question that almost required no answer, other than Neil's. Which is what I would have released as a public statement:
"It's a Porsche. Why not?"

I only put that line in as a direct response. I believe pepper saw that it was not demeaning, and took for what it was intended for. No harm done. In fact, I used almost the exact words that were used towards me. I find that amusing, I believe he did to.

I do agree with you that 24 Lemans does put the car to its limits, and does so better than any other race around the world, but on the other side of the coin, I suppose testing reliability over rough terrain vs. longevity (as in Lemans) does provide a level of information not gained otherwise.
Hope this helps

Ok I get your point now, makes more sense. I guess my view is that people say all sorts of stuff, some is well thought out and some not so much. Whenever these "corporate" people speak to me its like listening to Obama, its all geared for self fulfillment, maybe its just in that persons best interest to speak of reliability for one reason or another.

24 hour of lemans takes a diffrent toll on the car then pikes peak. I hope you can put the puzzle together. Just like F1 cars take a diffrent abuse then a WRC car. Tarmac vs. gravel/dirt. Suspension components take a huge abuse offroading/ mechanicals of chassis are ampliedfied drasticly. The altitutde change takes a huge toll on engine/cooling system.brakes etc. Serioustly, and you say you follow motorsports.
