I asked my tinter the same question. His answer was to hide imperfections in the edge of the glass. Don't know if that is true or not.

 

The dots are there to help speed up the process of defogging the glass. They are usually near the top of the glass or on the rear windows to assist the defog system which usually blows from the bottom of the front windshield. Simple enough?

 

The formula One Pinnacle is a good product. Despite recommendations from others the place I went to didn't do a "great" job with the dots on the rear window. I had them redo and it was a little better. This despite the fact that they told me beforehand it wouldn't be a problem. My buddy's C2 had a better result with the same dots and same place. Go figure. I have seen a couple of cars with a "perfect" job so it is possible but just make sure the place you choose has some experience with the dots.

 

Scottsdale Porsche offers the nano ceramic AZ legal 35% tint for about $700.00 Is that way overpriced and should I find someone else?

 

Wow, in South Fl, the cost for llumar tint is $130-150. Ive had it on every vehicle ive owned and only 1 time on 1 window did i have an issue.

 

Got mine done for $400 and well worth every penny.

 

I just paid $239 here in Houston last month. 5th car I have had tinted by the same guy in 12 plus years.

 

I only do sides. The back glass is so slanted, that often there are problems with bubbling from long exposure with the sun. Also, there are heater-wire issues. And I need clear vision out the back to spot troupers and any film regardless of shade reduces vision of the cars coming up behind especially at night.

 

Lumar 35% allround, including the back window. Never have had issues with the defroster. As johnww mentioned, the back window is tough to do decently, so have an experienced guy install it.

I have a quote to do the full car (front windshield as well) with ceramic tint for $350 - or normal tint for $275...is the extra $75 worth it to have the ceramic film?

Ceramic - yes - either Huper Optik or Formula One Pinnacle. Not sure if Florida has windshield inspection stickers - I wouldn't do the windshield - maybe a strip at the top but not the whole windshield.

 

If done correctly, there should be no bubbling or defrost issues. The distortion is caused by poorly applied film or not top quality material...

 

$375 for ceramic tint on the whole vehicle? Now that's a deal. Make sure you request info on the tint, it sounds too good to be true...
