Might pull the trigger on a 08 gt2

Congratulations on your GT2, zzzSpeed! I think you'll love it and that it'll grow on you the longer you drive it. It has certainly worked that way for me. Bought mine new in 2008, have 16,800 miles on it. Just took it up to Julian for lunch with my wife on a weekday (very little traffic) spur-of-the-moment drive. Just got it back from its annual service and had to make sure everyting worked properly. I8 to S1 (Sunrise Highway -- as a San Diegan you must know these roads). Only car on that wonderful road. Then 79 to Julian.
Mine has been absolutely trouble free. Have had it serviced by the book by Pioneer Porsche. Only challenge has been a flat rear tire on two separate occasions while in the wilds of Northern California and Utah. The Porsche dealers in Reno and Las Vegas both came through with a one-day delivery of a new tire. Getting to the dealers was a bit more of a challenge, but it worked. Enjoy it -- it's a true driver's car. Not too many of those available anymore.

I think I saw somewhere that the lift costs around $7k to add aftermarket.
I got to drive the car this morning and will probably do the contract on Monday and pickup on Tues. My impression: compared to my c2s it was of course much faster, but what surprised me was how much more crisp the steering and handling were. The clutch and gear box felt amazing. It was very smooth and comfortable and I see no problem driving it half the week and my ctt the other half. And Larry, I will make sure that it wont see rain. Because I am getting this car with around 8k miles and $85k less then it stickered for its hard to go wrong with it at this point. By the way I had a PPI done and it was pristine, no overrevvs in 4,5,6, and only a handful in 3.
As long as things go as planned I will post picks when I bring it home.
Thanks

Congrats and good choice. 997 GT2 is the best Porsche deal IMO and the car i'd like most but you truly can't go wrong with a GT3 or better yet an RS.
Since getting my 996T over 6 years ago (after being a serial car-aholic) I've decided to build a small collection over time. I think a GT2 or RS is next for me, although I have strange attraction to the Z4M and given the lower entry price I might get one of those first.

Got it!! Here are some pics!
Picked up car last night in Newport Beach at a lambo dealer. Got a great deal on a very clean car. Fellow 6speeder buddy of mine drove up with me and we enjoyed taking turns driving the gt2 or my modded ctt.
Actually had a new zr1 pull up to us on PCH for a race. My friend was driving the gt2 and did not want to race, since we just picked up the car, but I did in the ctt. I got a jump on him of 2 car lenghts and he did not close the gap up to 110mph. I think he must of missed gears or something because he should of smoked me even though I have over 600hp in the ctt. When he pulled up to me, he said 'damn that thing is quick, I couldnt catch you".
The car feels so much tighter and more nimble than my C2S, aside from just speed its the overall feel. Never boring nor uncomfortable, just right.
Planning on getting the EVOMS tune done in the future (maybe a few months). Replace that damn 08pcm with a pioneer avic 130, but the only place in town is La Jolla Audio and they are asking $4500 to be installed. That is 2000 more then a place in LA, but it is a hassle to take it to LA and leave it for 2 days. Does anyone know of a trusted place in San Diego that does not rape you with price.
Thanks to everyone who gave me your insight and experience with this car.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I just joined PCA and will definitley do some track time with it. I have a lot of experience at attending 3 different driving schools (2 with bmw and 1 with porsche), but have a lot of work on the heel/toe down shifting. Also will do some DE with PCA. Now that I have a manual I can practice.

Beautiful color. Love the painted setbacks. Don't tint the windows or you'll never see them again. If you don't mind will you pm me the price? I've been looking. I won't repeat. promise.

Thanks, that is what I am talking about. That explanation helps me decide if it is worth my time to pursue this car. I know that the TTS is capable and much faster than anything other then a veryron, or murci sv, but I am looking for something a little more and you explained it well. By the way I also HATE the assisted clutch in the turbo.
I thougt the clutch, pedal, instant torque and steering feel of the 3rs was magical...I am smiling right now recalling that drive. So if I can get that similar feeling while having that turbo power on the straights then .
In terms of comparing track times of the tts to the gt2 just means that the tts is very capable and advanced, and as I mentioned before I would be very happy with one, but everytime a gt3 or 2 drives by I am stupified with desire and want.
Thanks again for your explanation. Anyone else have this kind of input?

The 2008 GT2 ran a 7:31 in April 2008 with Rohrl. The 2011 Turbo S ran a 7:32 in April 2011 with the same driver.
The 2008 GT2 ran a 7:33 with HsV in November 2007, while the Turbo S ran a 7:44 with HvS in March 2011.
Bottom line...neither you or I will ever see those times.
The Turbo S is insanely fast. Every time I get in my friends car, I am in awe at how well it launches, and how well behaved it is. But coming from a tuned 996TT, 996GT3, and 997TT...I feel that my 997GT2 beats them all in terms of combining driver involvement, performance, and daily driving...except in the snow.
Specifics...I like rowing my own gears. I love my non hydraulic assisted clutch. I love feeling the friction point, and the bolt action shifter. I love the swift kick as forced induction helps you launch out of a corner. I love the light weight agility nearly identical to my GT3. I love the steering feedback (compared to my 997TT), the ability to brake later on your turn in. I also love knowing that my car will handle several hundred horsepower modifications in the future.

It would be interesting to see what it would do on a set of cups.
Congrats to the op!

I am a guy with above average driving skills. No Mario Andretti but I have done OK. I went to buy my first P car with the full intent of getting a 6 speed so I could be incontrol. Salesman pressed me to drive a PDK TT and after 15 minutes my mind was forever changed. Changing grears under acceleration is like squeezing off bullets from a well oiled automatic weapon. No joke-once you go PDK-there is no going back.

TTS for a car I preferred was a huge factor.
As you mentioned trying the PDK on TTS, you should try a drive in a GT2 you will also be hooked. The driving feel of how crisp it steers and handles, and the whole experience is hard to put in words. Just try it.
