Might pull the trigger on a 08 gt2
Might get a GT2 tomorrow, will decide after the test drive. Will be getting rid of C2S highly modded. Was mainly considering a TTS or a GT3 RS and planning on doing 10k miles/year.
This has been discussed before and many of the people responding have never driven a GT2 (like me) but automatically say "its a GT2 so get it if you can" . I thought the same thing its a GT2 so it must be the best of both worlds between the 3rs and tts.
I spoke with 2 people who have owned and had a lot of experience with all three 911's and they say the gt2 should be my last choice of the 3 cars. This really shocked me since most threads asking about this are full of people saying to get it. They say its not much better then the turbo in terms of nimbleness and that it still feels very heavy and way too much lag compared to the 3rs.
I have driven the tts and 3rs. The tts was amazing and fast and fullfilled all my needs. Then I drove the 3rs and it overwhelmed my needs and triggered my lust reflex. Its not anywhere near the practical side as the tts but my desire for it overrides the practicality.
So I was hoping that the gt2 would give me the speed of a turbo and the excitement of the 3rs. I will find out tomorrow after my drive if my plans go as I hope.
For those of you who have had "a lot" of experience in these different cars, I would like to hear your opinions. I have already heard the "if you track it then get this or if you DD then get that".

Food for thought, of the three cars you mentioned, I believe the tts runs the fastest ring times, I'm not saying that just because I have one either.
The tts would probably handle either one with ease on any track unless the gt cars were flawlessly driven.
I've driven a 2011 gt3, and the tts, the tts is clearly the fastest of the two I drove by a wide margin.
A gt2rs is a completely different animal, however, it would have to be driven perfectly to spank the tts IMO.

The 2008 GT2 ran a 7:31 in April 2008 with Rohrl. The 2011 Turbo S ran a 7:32 in April 2011 with the same driver.
The 2008 GT2 ran a 7:33 with HsV in November 2007, while the Turbo S ran a 7:44 with HvS in March 2011.
Bottom line...neither you or I will ever see those times.
The Turbo S is insanely fast. Every time I get in my friends car, I am in awe at how well it launches, and how well behaved it is. But coming from a tuned 996TT, 996GT3, and 997TT...I feel that my 997GT2 beats them all in terms of combining driver involvement, performance, and daily driving...except in the snow.
Specifics...I like rowing my own gears. I love my non hydraulic assisted clutch. I love feeling the friction point, and the bolt action shifter. I love the swift kick as forced induction helps you launch out of a corner. I love the light weight agility nearly identical to my GT3. I love the steering feedback (compared to my 997TT), the ability to brake later on your turn in. I also love knowing that my car will handle several hundred horsepower modifications in the future.

I thougt the clutch, pedal, instant torque and steering feel of the 3rs was magical...I am smiling right now recalling that drive. So if I can get that similar feeling while having that turbo power on the straights then .
In terms of comparing track times of the tts to the gt2 just means that the tts is very capable and advanced, and as I mentioned before I would be very happy with one, but everytime a gt3 or 2 drives by I am stupified with desire and want.
Thanks again for your explanation. Anyone else have this kind of input?

I am starting to wrestle with this exact question....i suppose driving the gt2 first will help with an answer. After several years of quattro cars (resulting in most of my driving senses being numb'd to death) and then making a giant leap into Bob's ex where the constant push/pull battle rages on,..i feel it may be time to try my hand at a rwd forced induction pcar.

Thanks, that is what I am talking about. That explanation helps me decide if it is worth my time to pursue this car. I know that the TTS is capable and much faster than anything other then a veryron, or murci sv, but I am looking for something a little more and you explained it well. By the way I also HATE the assisted clutch in the turbo.

I am not looking for what is faster around the track with my driving skills, I want to know which one will get me the most excited when I think about driving it. You are right about the tts being faster and that speed is an important factor to me also. That is why the tts is still a serious option for my next purchase.

I have pdk in my C2S now and its great, but only exciting when I am in the mood to push it. I started a thread where I showed my acceleration times on my VBOX, it was getting 3.7sec to 60 and 8.9 to 100. Last night I got 11.8 1/4mile. So my C2S is no slouch and is a blast when I push it, thus I am not opposed to pdk.

Sorry, but my GT2 weight 2950lbs right now, it feel awesome at the track and no tt cars can match me in corners and in breaking zones.
The lag on the track? Always on boost on the track and with those small turbos, there is no lag. A regular GT3 is much slower than a GT2. Put 245/35 - 325/30 Troffeo tires with a little extra boost and no regular GT3 RS will be a match at the track (specially on fast tracks, forget the mickey mouse tracks).

Good stuff. I am very naive when it comes to suspension mods, what does the uniball do for the suspension/handling. I assume it makes it handle much better reducing over/under steer but does it make the ride to firm and maybe unbearable on a drive around town.
