Laser Shifter and Mobridge questions
Two quick questions. Is $800 installed a decent price for the Mobridge system for bluetooth and ipod? It doesn't have to be the best price because it is from a Porsche dealer so that I know it will be done correctly but I just want to make sure it in't off the charts.
I have a 9500ix right now and I want to add a laser shifter. I'm getting a Mobridge unit installed on Monday so I asked what the laser shifter would cost. The place I am getting it said that the laser shifter install was 8 hours. Is this normal for a 997 Turbo? That seems like a very long install for laser shifter. I want one but I can get a lot of tickets for $1350 bucks installed.

I would get the LI (LI has the parking feature too) system front and rear protection since you live in FL. I have read the do rear shots there too. I would get on the radar forum and ask around about installs. I am sure you could fine someone to do the LI install. After you get it install you MUST get it tested. Head placement and alignment is critical. Off a little and you get punch through.

As an aside, the LI is great - but the newer LDP is kicking its butt. We just tested both last friday and the LDP LITERALLY jams clear up to the gun. It was tested against the Stalker LZ1 gun. The LI punched through at about 200 feet. We just took video of the whole test, but have not had time to post it yet. Best part is, the LDP heads are very tiny. MUCH smaller than any other to date. They are about 1.5 inches wide and 1 inch deep. This allows for even more creative installs.

On the stalker it depends on which software version. Some are much harder to jam. The stalker in your area that you test with is the easier one to jam.

Cartronic,
I just got a used gt2 that came with a k40 detector and jammer. I have no experience with this product and have had local shops that promote the Escort system say that the k40 system is dated and not very good, especially in its range of detection/jamming. Really hesitant to spend thousands on a jammer but really need one. What do you advise.
Thanks

$700 is very reasonable but how much would a good install run? And, I should probably get a V1 for radar detection since you also think the k40 is useless even for radar detection? I had the V1 in my C2S and will have it hardwired into my CTT soon, I feel it is superb especially since I learned how to turn off the useless bands and only leave on the x and ka bands....no more false alarms everywhere.
Thanks so much for you input cartronic, I wish you were in S.cal

As long as all packaging and everything is kept as new, yes. You can do a simple install (even though the windshield) and try it out. We do the same. Which technically would give the LI the edge, since it is permanently mounted out front. However, we temp install the others on the binnacle for testing, and front mount them only if we have trouble when we test them.
I will be ordering them within the month.

Thank you so much for your frank honesty. So many owners will defend what they have to the grave, even when it is not something worth defending. I still have a Blinder Extreme in one of my cars (one I rarely drive and am too lazy sometimes to work on my own cars) - and I would never defend it. It is pure junk.

Not really, but kind of. Almost all laser jammers have heads that are mounted on the front/rear of of the vehicle that are controlled by a CPU (plus have an alert speaker/light and control switch) that are located in the passenger compartment. The CPU and jammer heads are generally connected by wires. These wires take time to run from the heads to CPU. It can take hours to mount and wire. You can use add to most of the systems a wireless adapter made by Cheetah to circumvent much of the jammer to CPU wiring. Downside is that some have reported performance issues. Additionally it takes time to properly place the heads. Once you are use to the car, or have mounting brackets installed to ease and shorten the constant reinstall process.
There is a jammer the CT-12 that has a wireless option for the connection from the CPU to the heads. There are wires that need to be installed (easy and quick) to power the CPU and heads. Unfortunately this laser jammer doesn't perform as well some others. A friend said about the CT-12 that it is a good jammer if you are away on a trip and want a laser jammer on your rental car.
