L mode will not do it. You have to program it through a somewhat clumsy interface.

I hope the cop had some kind of warrant before he touched your vehicle. If not, I'd like to know which law allows such confiscation.

I now have the V1 which replaced my Escort I feel they are both good, I prefer the V1 I like the arrows and bogey counter it has. I can't tell you how many times the counter has saved me.

I am a long term Escort user. Right now I have 9500xi and have been considering the Redline. Besides the claimed advantages of Redline, would i be missing anything from 9500xi?

I'm not sure either. But when the cop is telling you that it's a potential misdeamoner to be using a jammer, and your're running late to the hospital (I'm a doctor), you're happy to just get the ticket and be gone. But trust me, I was super pissed that he took it from my car. It's probably like if he thought i had coke in the car--probable cause. With a badge and a gun, those a@!holes can do whatever they want.

The redline doesn't come with the defender database of speed and redlight cameras.

I chose the Red Line over the 9500 and V1 because:
a: I do a lot of highway driving
b: It has both a front and rear antenna which the 9500 does not
c: Testing demonstrates a small advantage over V1
d: It is completely undetectable by radar-radar detectors unlike the 9500, not sure about the V1 on this

The Redline does not have a rear radar antenna only the V1 has that currently.

The Redline has better sensitivity and off axis detection than the V1, but the V1 is far superior in is reactivity.

laser jammers are not illegal, argu;ment is that they use laser in hospitals, etc. However, radar jammers that really do not work are illegal.

As of Sept 1,2011 LIDAR jammers are illegal to install, sell, or purchase in the state of Texas. So, yes in some states they are against the law.
Do they work? Some brands yes and some brands no.

Where can I find this new law? Do you have a link?

I really appreciate it,
Cliff

According to escort and by looking at my Red Line Box it states:

" DUAL ANTENNAE " And in the owner manuel it states:

1. Front and rear laser detection
2. Dual antennae with varactor-tuned(VTO) microwave receiver
- provides the longest range possible against all radar threats
3. Exclusive TotalShield Technology for the ultimate in undetectability

Yes, it has two FOWARD facing radar antennae, one for X and K band, the other for Ka band. The radar antennae (called horns) do not in any way detect laser. Separate laser detectors on the Redline accomplish that. The Redline does not do a good job protecting anyone from laser, only laser jammers can.

The Redline has the best RANGE of all currently available windshield mount radar detectors, the REACTIVITY of the Redline lags far behind the V1. Range and REACTIVITY are two separate measurements of the qualities of a radar detector.

You are correct regarding the rear antenna, but the dual antenna allows for faster microprocessing.

I have enclosed a link comparing the two models

Hopefully, it may help in your decision

I made a mistake, one antenna is for X band the other for K and Ka band.

Radartest.com is a highly biased website. I don't trust what is written on it. Google Craig Peterson, and look at the guys of LIDAR website. See how honorable he is.

I would like to post links to independent testing that has been done on both of those radar detectors, but the administrators and moderators forbid linking to other forums. The testing shows that the V1 has quicker processing than the Redline. It is the time that is spent scanning Ka band which is much larger than K or X band. We aren't talking one frequency, but in the US the frequencies that are used run from about 33.8 to 35.5 for Ka band. X and K band have much smaller band width. The length of time the Redline requires for a signal to be present when being scanned is significantly longer than the V1 for an alert to be made.

The bottom line is both are very good radar detectors. It is personal preference, and what kind of encounters you have that will determine which is the better detector. There are situations where one of the detectors will fail to alert or give an alert that is much shorter than one would like. There is no perfect radar detector.
