Angry HREs peeling!

Got a problem with my 3 year old HRE P40’s.... I spotted yesterday that they are seriously peeling on the inside edge.

(between 4 and 5 o’clock in this photo)

(the fronts are starting to bobble too)

As such, does anyone know what warranty comes with these wheels?

I have ceramic brakes (no brake dust) and the wheels have been kept very clean for the last 3 years (and dry in a garage for most of it) so this kind of corrosion shouldn’t be happening!

Many thanks

Alex

From HRE's site regarding their monoblocks:

The wheels are designed using a 100 percent forged 6061 heat-treated aluminum platform to optimize strength and weight resulting in exceptional ride quality and performance. Both styles are engineered as model-specific Porsche fitments. The wheels are also available as a ready-to-install package with tires, TPMS sensors and precision RFV balancing. Each package can be installed within a few minutes. The wheels come with a comprehensive warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles under normal driving conditions to match the vehicle warranty.

I PM'd HRE_Guy to see if he can assist.

You seemed surprised. After 25+ years of aftermarket wheels, I haven't had a wheel yet that didn't eventually peel. I've had cast wheels that didn't peel but not forged. That's one of my issues with them. We enthusiasts put up with a lot to get the look we crave.

I seriously doubt HRE or any company will correct the problem for free. Most companies warranty finish for a year. I think HRE does it more than a year but I'm kinda sure it's not 3 years.

You gotta pay to play in the big leagues.

I have had problems with my wheel finishes as well, but not at 3 years. And knowing Alex, he takes very meticulous care of his car - I am sure the wheels have been well cared for in terms of types of cleaning products.

a 4 year warranty is very good for an aftermarket company. hope all is resolved to everyone's satisfaction

Alex sorry your going through this, but I'm sure the guys at HRE will not let you down, that I'm willing to bet the farm on it! They are a really standup company that will fix the issues if you are under there warranty. I have been a customer for a long time and I have used them on my Audis, Corvettes, and Mercedes Benz and there have held up beautiful. One question, what do you use for cleaning? Just and FYI, I had one set peel years ago and I used some product that was way too strong that caused them to bubble up, maybe that happened to you? I did have the wheels powder coated again and since that zero issues. Good Luck and yes it is a pia, but at the end HRE will take care of you!

As I don't have brake dust, just some quality car shampoo usually gets them nice and clean.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have emailed the UK HRE reseller where I purchased the wheels to see if they can help.

If HRE can help me direct, then this would be good too.

Shipping the wheels to US and back is going to be a pain both in terms of cost and car downtime though. A while back I enquired about changing my finish to black with polished silver face and was told by the reseller it would be almost as expensive as just buying new wheels!

I agree but have to say the only finish I have only had problems with would be an epoxy primer and polyurethane top coat. The problems I have are limited to surface prep - the source of all evil.

I am sure they will take care of your problems.

I would be shocked if that 4 year warranty included the finish. It usually covers only the structure. If HRE covers the finish this long, I am going to buy a set.

it's just paint, not a big deal. repaint is like $150 per wheel.

same here (potential customer). I had no idea that this was a possibility with forged wheels.
