Those of you manual purists experiencing the 2nd gear notch shifting should know that since I installed a SACHS "springless" solid disk clutch (OEM is spring hub)

I am no longer experiencing notchy syncro shifting behaviour...
And there has been an added feeling of foot clutch engagement since the replacement.

SS really is a love hate thing depending upon user but so far as the Sachs clutch goes i couldn't agree more. This is the clutch this car should have come with from the factory. It just feels better everywhere....even in stock tune file mode. A definite worthy mod in my book even for those that want to leave the tune file stock.

Funny thing, I traded my 07 2s because of the notchy 2nd shift. I thought it had a synchro problem that I alone was unlucky to encounter, and didn't want the hassle of the dealer screwing more things up. I didn't know more P cars had it. My 06 Z06 had it, but I made sure my 09 Turbo shifted like butter prior to signing.

Is this a common problem with P cars?

It seems to be a common problem with many manual gearboxes. My M3 has a very notchy 1st to 2nd shift and many owners complain about the same problem. I've taken it to the dealer once and they said it was 'normal.' It's gotten to the point where I am considering taking serious action (I have a CPO warranty) or selling my car for a DCT.

It's interesting that the clutch fixes this problem, I was convinced it was a synchro problem

I have a rough shift into second as well. I asked my mechanic about it at the 24,000 mile service. He said it was normal. I have never liked that shift roughness. I have found that if I shift into second sooner, it is much smoother. The rest of the shifts are butter.
