Best Tune for 2012 911 Turbo S
#32
there should be a way for tuners to lift the PDK torque limiters just like they do in M DCT, GTRs and VW DSG
no reason why a little bit more power cant be squeezed out

The PDK clutches just won't handle any more....
#34
Regardless someone should get cracking on the clutchpacks because you are correct to an extent. There is probably not to much headroom in the stock clutch packs especially with longevity factored in.

I hear ya. Similar things were said about VW/Audi DSG when that came out. Limit was said to be 258 crank torque but since people have pushed them to 450 crank torque without issues. Same with GTR just different #s that I don't remember.

You could install hardware that's good for 1000whp in the PDK car, and it's not going to make it any bit faster then a PDK car with 550whp.
The PDK control system will limit the amount of power the car can actually produce. So whether it's technically got 1000hp or 550hp....it's the only power put to the wheels is going to be what the PDK control unit allows.
This is why you see such consistent results from PDK equipped cars. 10.9, 11.1, 10.8...you'll be right in that same range no matter what hardware you add to the car.

There's nowhere near that much room. There IS a little bit...but not quite much. The problem with the PDK unit is that it's a non-servicable unit. Unlike GTR's and DSG's that can be opened whenever clutches need replacing, the PDK needs to be cut open. That's why Porsche doesn't repair PDK's, they replace them when there's any signs of issues.

Our previous test car (the "War Admiral" car seen in Excellence) was returned to stock and sold, and we moved the development and testing program onto a new test mule. The new is receiving quite a lot of upgrades aside from the PDK so once it's road-worthy, we'll get back to testing full steam, and regular updates will resume. Whether we like it or not, the PDK is really the future for Porsche, so quitting is not an option. We will get it to work. The only question is ultimately how much power can we get it to hold.

Good to hear, Tom. Your threads are always good reads and the PDK development is fascinating stuff. If these cars are capable of such awesome performance out of the box with the PDK, it is exciting to think what they may be capable of with 100+ additional wheel horsepower.
