How could you drive all of them for months without owning them? If that's the case I would not buy at all!

If you want.. you can add GMG's twin turbo package for 640 wheel or 780 horsepower . Tuned by GIAC too!

It was actually just featured on Road and Track magazine January 2012.

So you can choose between 2 TT's if you wish..

Read the same article. The GMG offering is a great choice along with the Stasis supercharger.

But what's amazing is that despite the GMG's TT upgrade, the bone stock Turbo S can still beat it by .8 seconds to 60, and at least .6 seconds in the 1/4 mile.. all without any warranty issues. With a modest GIAC tune of the ECU, the Turbo S will be even faster..

It's obviously not just about which car is faster in a straight line when making a decision, but it's a big part of 'performance'. To that end, it's hard to beat a Turbo S.

I don't get it, can someone please explain how the GMG R8 V10TT weighs almost 300lbs LESS than a stock R8 V10?

Also baffling, with the R8 being AWD, the GMG R8 TT should have a better run than 3.6sec to 60mph with 255hp more and almost 300lbs less. That's only 0.1sec less than the stock V10 R8...

Sorry, I was not very clear - after months of test driving, looking at, kicking the tires of, a bunch - I chose the 997TT.

Oddly, though - the car I had the most difficulty actually test driving was the GT-R.

If the R8 'does' it for you, ditch your turbo. You'll always wonder "what if"?
I fully agree...they are nice to look at, but, I can't see every trading my turbo for that slower car...

^^I guess he can always do Bryce's GMG R8 turbo re-fit. Then he'll be back in business. But i assume there is a fair spend attached to that exercise.

Another thought to consider, 3-5 years down the road what will the value and market be for the R8 vs the 911.

The TTS is much faster than the R8, or any modded 997.1tt I'm afraid. I recently got rid of mine for other reasons, but speed wasn't one of them. The TTS was the fastest car I have ever driven.

Get the R8 with the STaSIS turbo package for like 750hp. Turns the car into a road rocket. It will add $50k to the price though. Tough choice when you just got an S, which has got to be one of the hottest cars on the road.

Equally competent and outstanding cars but very different from each other. The key in your question is the V10, which you are getting (no V8!). Based on my experience with the Gallardo, which I test drove back to back with a Ferrari F430, a Ford GT/40, a Corvette, and my own Turbo, I would consider the R8 V10 to be an extremely worthy competitor to our Turbo. Your regret will not be that you won't enjoy the R8, but that you might have given up on the Turbo too early (how long have you had the Turbo?). How about keeping the Turbo for a couple years to fully appreciate why it's the world's best selling "supercar," then switch?

Advantage R8:
...NA V10 engine (linear response). I absolutely love this engine - subjectively very powerful and torquey, to me better than the V8 of the Ferrari for example. I always consider a V10 to be the sweet spot of a world class sports car and this to be a significant advantage of the R8.
...Exhaust sound to end all exhaust sound. Best in the world. What a howl - it makes my knees weak and sends shivers down my spine.
...Mid engine chassis. Enough said. Another significant advantage.

Advantage Turbo:
...Better daily driver, better outward vision, perfect sitting position.
...Better steering feedback. (The Gallardo steering feels insulated to me.)
...Better chassis feedback. (Gallardo feels heavy and insulated.)
...Among world's best manual gearbox.
I consider the better steering and chassis feedback to be major advantage in favor of Porsche. Although they are both heavy cars, subjectively the Turbo feels lighter and smaller. Another fact that is rarely mentioned but is extremely important is the perfect sitting position of the Turbo: this car fits me, and many other drivers of different "dimensions" :-), like a glove, as if it's an extension of my own body (ok I know this sounds strange LOL). In this aspect, the Turbo has no competition and is therefore the world's best supercar daily-driver.

BTW, an R8 V10 is very fast straight-line (someone pls look up 0-60, mid 3's like 997.1 Turbo I believe) and at the track. Its Sport Auto's Nurburgring time is 7:44, only a few ticks behind the TTS and a huge 10 seconds faster than 997.1 Turbo. During my test drive that day, I ranked the Gallardo over both F430 and Ford GT/40. My main problem with the Audi, besides the fact that it's not a daily driver (and for the Lambo, cost to maintain), is personally, I don't like the Audi's look at all. Somehow this is a stumpy looking car and that front face with the nasty huge grill is something only a mother could love.

^^Some good points Can.
I'm sure the R8 sounds better than TTS with that lovely atmo V10.....that is once a decent system is put on it. So there is one plus point
R8 is claimed to be more beautiful by some but for many (me inc) its futuristic look has way too many quirky angles. i.e.; from dead front on it looks cheesy with that massive trademark Audi grille. They need to get rid of that ugly audi grille! Its as if they are trying to build the car around an ugly trademark that should have been abandoned years ago i.e. move on....but i guess Audi is desperate to attach the car to the rest of its bland fleet for credibility purposes.
Front and front side on is also not that flash either imo. The best angles to view the car are from the rear end where it does looks quite attractive. It's looks are trying to be exotic like a Lambo or Faz but haven't managed to cut the mustard in that dept so have become subjective. Inside it also doesn't have the same headroom as a 911 either and is somewhat claustrophobic with nothing behind the seats and, I absolutely loathe the trademark Audi pillow on the steering wheel too. They really should dump that look immediately! A car like the R8 deserves to break away from that awful trademark pillow with the 4 **** rings on it. However there is no disputing the car drives really well.....more forgiving than 911 so not so demanding on the driver....if thats what you prefer.
