buying new wheels, advice needed

Hello all,

I want to buy some wheels for my stock 997tt (2007), and I really like the look of a 20in rim but I know its not the traditional way of wheels for these cars. What are the actual differences going to feel like on street driving everyday? I do not drive the car on tracks at all but I also want to handle just as well or better than stock. Can you give me advice on rim size and width for the best drivability PLEASE?

Thankyou
Elliott

get 19's and lower it...IMO 20's look too big on the 997tt

Stay with 19's and lower you'll be happier with the handling and ride.

Again thankyou very much for your input, it helps alot. It seems right to me to run the 19's lowered rather than fighting with the 20's, although they look great on the TT/'s

Yes stay with 19". I've been in a few cars with 20" and didn't like the ride especially on concrete highways and off ramps with some speed.

If you get 19s at least go wider...buying the same size wheels IMO is a waste...19s and slightly lowered but do homework on lowering because if you do it wrong it will ride worse than 20s...I personally like 20s on these cars but that is a personal preference...if you live anywhere other than a city with great roads 20s would be a pain because no matter how careful...the streets win...potholes can wreck the wheels and suspension...get a 19 that will fill the wheel wells...you don't have a lot of room but there is enough to expand...good hunting

Concur with 19's. Many people go to a 12'' rear and 9'' front too. Have you looked into tire choices yet? Are you on a budget of any sort? There are a lot of vendor/ board sponsors here that will prob give you a 6speed member discount too.

Post up the pictures of your new wheels once fitted please.

Personal preference really. Based on your requirements there will be a compromise at one point. If you want "show" go for the 20"s, and if you want "go" then stay with the 19"s. It's that simple really. To say the 20's will perform the same or better tan 19" is something i have never heard.

I am sure i could search this but what exactly is the width of the stock wheels? I am looking for 19x11 and 19x8.5 originally I wanted the Ultraleggera HLT.

To maybe help with your search, I stayed with 19 but went wider in the rear to 12. Was able to stay with a thicker tire so the ride quality was still comfortable...and can lower the car later with susp. Here is a pic of mine...good luck with the purchase!

Tcal,

Wow your car looks great. I absolutely love that wheel and tire combo. What are the offset's exactly that I need for my wheels to be flush like yours when I purchase them? Thanks

There are some great looking 20's out there...but they always draw my attention to the rotors - the rotors look really small with 20's mounted.

What tire sizes did you use to ensure that the mid/front differential does not burn up?
