Motor Upgrade Begins

This is the start of my "Stage 1" motor upgrade--rods, studs, and a new head gasket.

Signature Protomotive Y-pipe

Protomotive 3" X-pipe exhaust (it's a beauty)

Pauter Rods

Rod Weight (all within specs)

Rod Bearings (all within specs)

Raceware Head Studs (stock on left for comparison)

We just started Friday and this is a project car so we will be working on it off and on. Stay tuned.

I would also do the 3,8 pistons while you are in the motor to be honest, but a good upgrade indeed to have the peace of mind. good luck.

Will do and even some replays when things don't go right!

Thanks. With Carillo's you need to shave down the oil pump for clearance. Pauter's should be bolt-ons. I haven't spec'd out my rods completely yet but Brian Pauter (awesome knowledge/service btw) said if there were any issues, he could resize them for me, if necessary.

Yes they do. Talk to Neil Harvey at Performance Dynamics. They're a little spendy.

Thanks Ed. Yeah me too. It's seen more shop time than anything lately.

Thanks Todd. Yeah, too much power for stock motor. I hope I don't run into more snags like the crankcase. We'll see when we open her up.

Good stuff Dave. What happened with your crankcase?

What does porting the heads accomplish? Yes it is a slippery slope when you start thinking "while I'm here why don't I also do...".

Hey Nick.
...IMO i would stay away from arrow rods for a big power 996 or 997 .Have heard of a couple rod failures with them that i have not seen with Carillos. No bearing failure no detonation it just snapped!!Cost the owner some big money.
