Track event mods

I have one but no longer use it. If you have a power seat, you can do better
Slide your seat backwards. Tighten the seatbelt across your body, and when it is taught, make sure you yank it so it is 'locked'. Slide your seat forward until the belt stays tightened snugly against your body.

At the risk of getting all the purists stirred up, IMHO a 997 Turbo with proper suspension, brakes, tires in the hands of a Non-Professional driver will be much faster ( measured by lap times ) around road courses than a new GT3 ( don't know about the 4.0 as I have not seen it on track ). I'm sure a professional driver will be faster in the GT3 but I've consistently seen Turbos being the fastest Porsches at DE's. I do approx. 12-15 events per year and the fastest cars are the Vettes, Vipers, and Porsche Turbos. If you are an experienced and serious driver and get proper suspension/alignment, upgrade brake pads/fluid and run R6 tires you can be as fast as any/most car at most track day events. I'm not suggesting that the turbo can easily become a true "sanctioned race car" and if you want that go with a Cup car...but for a really fun, fast, reliable weekend track car and decent street car the 997 Turbo will fill those needs. As to seats, there are options for that...GT3 seats, GT2 Euro seats, and non OEM options. I have Sparco DTM seats in mine and they are beautiful and super light. Final thought...the Turbo is heavy, thus it's tough on brakes ( pad/rotors ) and tires!!!

if your going to adjust the suspension anyways... is a pre 2010 turbo just as good? I know its more power and better suspension on the 2010+ 997.2 but can a 2007 be good with aftermarket suspension and a reflash? (Id do brake pads, fluids and tires on every car Ive ever tracked).
I ask because I can get a pre 2010 cheaper and saves me money for mods..

Again, I'm prejudiced as I have a 2007, but I have driven a new Turbo S PDK on the track and I was not as fast in it as my APR tuned & TPC Stage 3+ car. I will qualify that somewhat...first it wasn't my car so I didn't push it, second the PDK is fantastic, but my car has equal or better HP and TQ and MUCH BETTER suspension and you could get my car for some $75K less than a new Turbo S and that will buy lot's of brakes, tires and seat time/instruction. I'm not bashing the newer turbos as they are fantastic and I would love to own one, but for the money you can get a pretty cool car that is super fast and handles fantastic that 99.99% of the public would kill for!

So you think a suspension modded with a bit more power, the op's 07TT will be better and cheaper than a 2010+ TT and be able to hang on track with a 2010+ gt3? Don't TT get hotter and are less reliable than the na gt3?

check out our project thread on our 996. I would do a similar setup for your car. These cars don't need much to go pretty quick around the track. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Can someone confirm with me that the 997 Cup cars run rotors 380mm x 36mm and also what size wheels they run these on? I thought Cup Cars still ran on 18" wheels with Michelin slicks but I can't see how they can fit the 380mm rotor Plus the caliper underneath an 18" wheel...or am I missing something?

I'm not a big tracker having only done a few driver's events.
Here is what worked for me:
1. Good tires. The best I personally tried were Hankook RS2 or RS3
2. Get some negative camber in front. Make the car a bit darty but you get used to it soon.
3. Brake Ducts from a GTx model
4. Rear sway bar to dial out some under-steer
Worked well for me on street and track.
