It's true that the Porsche won't warrantee the exhaust, as it's not their product. However, the only thing past the exhaust are the exhaust tips, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Doing your own installation isn't bad if you're mechanically inclined. Not too much to go wrong if you take your time. If you take photos as you disassemble, it helps to remember where things go in reassembly.

You are welcome to hear my car. Just PM me and I'll send you my contact info.

Stef at EP is great about helping as you go through the installation process. He'll answer questions promptly and send photos if you need clarification. I'll be glad to share my experience with you as well.

Cheers very much for saying that! We're doing another car tomorrow that's coming up from LA so watch this space It's nice to be able to have a good snarl from these cars and without drone. The 997.1TT's were much more prone to drone like the 996TT's of old.

Vendor's like Europipe are diamonds in the rough.

With that said I went with Sharkwerks exhaust which screams. The price was significantly cheaper but of course their system does not include new cats. I am getting a set of 200 cell cat's made so I can hear the turbo's more. I do believe the Shark Werks pipe will be much louder once I get the 200 cell cats installed. I also want to mention that Dan, Alex, and James were a pleasure to work with. They answered all my questions promptly and took care of me. They even said I can send the exhaust back for a full refund if it didn't suit me.

There really is no best exhaust. It's really a matter of what you want and what you want to pay for it. Both systems are are awesome from great vendors that stand behind their product and customer.

Here's quick vid I took of the exhaust. It's off my blackberry camera. The video and sound quality sucks. The exhaust is much louder in real life. I will post a better video once I get my 200 cell cats.

I was considering the EP as it is a magnificent piece of automotive art. Almost all who buy it, love it. That said, it costs a lot of money to get one to the States. Usually around 5k once you factor duty costs.

The Sharkwerks unit is a relative bargain. It is simple, as free flow as you can get with stock cats, and sounds freakin' awesome. I love my TTS 10x more with this exhaust on it. It sounds like a real sports car. Also, it does not drive me crazy when cruising. I can't believe that a straight pipe exhaust works with my sensitive ears but the 9A1 engine and these pipes are absolute magic.

I was a skeptic, as Alex can attest, but I am sold! This should be a factory part! LOL.

Price wasn't a factor for me. If I were going to do a complete exhaust replacement, I'd prob have gone EP along with 200 or 100 cell FF cats.

But primarily I didn't want to mess with the possible warranty issues and just go straight bolt on behind the cats, and secondarily california emissions crap.

So went sharkwerks exhaust along with the EVOMsit tune - can't say what's it like to have separate, got both at same time, but added together it's night and day between stock and now. Boost comes on much faster, stays pegged longer, and even in non-sport mode the throttle response is so much better than regular sport mode.

The exhaust tone at idle and regular accel is awesome. Still getting used to the changed tone when under boost though - not quite sure if it's normal or maybe just my ears but seems like when under boost at least from inside the cabin - sounds almost like a vibrating burping kinda growl. Will have to make a video, hopefully the sound records decent.

Thank you for your compliment.

No need to spread false insinuations David as all our customers love their 997.2 Turbo / Turbo S Europipe sport exhausts, thanks.

It's $4190 + 2.5% duty in most states ($105) + $165 shipping = $4460

Cheers

This confuses me because you already lost your warranty due to the flash.

There's theory, and then there's reality. Yes, - the flash "could" lose me portions of my warranty. But reality is the dealer isn't going to "see" my flash every time they change my oil, put my car on a lift to change my wheels/tires, etc - all the usual crap you go into service for.

Non-stock cats are heck of a lot harder to wiggle around. It's visible for just about any kind of service you go in for.

So do I care about my warranty to some extent? Yes. Can I live with the choices I made if the ultimate consequence comes around? Yes. But I've also made choices to reasonably mitigate that under the normal business as usual interactions with my dealer, my car other than bolt on muffler will appear stock.

Even without going into whether you can "hide" your ECU flash from a dealer, unless everything I've been told and read on this board is wrong - dealers don't do a scan of your ECU every time you take your car in for service.

I also said two reasons in my OP reply - secondarily I live with the crap california mandates on emissions. I plan on keeping this last pre-991 car a long time, so passing emissions at some point is going to be issue.

I'd suggest reason you're confused is you zeroed in on one single aspect of my overall reply rather than read and understand the whole context.

I understand what you are saying. You are concerned about the dealer seeing an aftermarket part on the car vs a "hidden" item like the ECU upgrade. Seem reasonable. However, while they don't scan the ECU on regular service, one thing is certain, if you ever have an engine issue, the ECU will be read. This is more of a concern than an exhaust, at least this is what my dealer tells me. You can put back the stock exhaust before the Porsche field rep comes to inspect the car, but messing with the ECU is not reversible.
