Tiptronic: Stuttering transmission from Reverse to Drive normal??

Another question for you guru's: I have an 07 997TT with tiptronic. I've noticed that when I reverse and then put the car into drive, if I press the gas immediately, the car stutters foward and it seems like it's trying to catch the gear (makes a really awful grating sound/feel). I have to always wait a second or two before I drive off. Now I don't really care if I have to wait an extra second. I just want to know if this is normal or is this a sign of the transmission failing?

Thanks in advance...

Doesn't sound normal, I'd stop by the dealer or local shop you trust for an opinion.

Sounds normal. How many miles are on the car? Stock or modded? I went through a trans twice 30k miles and 600whp of hard miles its justice after starting to leak worse and worse after replacing fluid and gaskets, than finally I sent it down south to Renntech for a quick, painless upgrade (good for 900+whp).. And my trans is still quite clunky sometimes; especially reverse, I wait a second for the gear to fully engage and it makes a thud noise.

Go to your local tech and have them look for leaks, and or change your trans fluid.

Thanks for the responses guys. My car has 22K miles on it but I've noticed it doing this since I bought it at 7600 miles. It's 100% stock, but I do drive it hard (no tracking) on the streets and I do brake-launches probably once or twice a month for sh-ts and giggles . But it's just as you described salerno...as soon as I go from reverse to drive and press the gas, it'll thud a little, stutter and then engage. Probably a normal thing but I'll have the stealership check it out at the next service (still under warranty thankfully).

My 07 is bone stock with approx. 52K miles on her and she does exactly what your does - very small thud and seems to be trying to catch gear. If you wait a second there is no thud and the tranny engages forward motion immediately. My stock OEM transmission has been bulletproof. Anyway, no worries. If you are seriously concerned then have your dealer/mechanic look at her.
