Alternatives to Mobil 1

Motul 300V is approved by Porsche as are several other oils mentioned in the article. However, DT40 is not Porsche approved which is a consideration if your car is still under warranty. LN used to carry Motul 300V and it gets great test reviews but it was replaced by DT40 when it became commercially available this month. Either one, and others too, appear superior to Mobil 1. Best,

Has anyone (or can anyone) do a VOA on this DT40. I would love to see where the ZDDP comes in. Per Jake Raby's comments in a post (and analysis), this DT40 simply resists shearing big time. It was compared side by side to Mobile 0W-40 and blew it away.
I saw a UOA on Mobile 5W-50 that looked great. It was a tracked Cayman with 4500 on the oil. Is anyone using this and why or why not? Too much detergent? The ZDDP on it looked phenomenal.

This is an interesting treatise on the subject of oils for Porsche's. There is probably more information than most of us can use or digest. LN Engineering, those good folks who seem to have the definitive answer on IMS issues, seem to be rather down on Mobil 1 as the formulation has apparently changed in recent years. Hence, after reviewing their testing, I've decided to switch to Motul 300V which can be ordered from Amazon. Its High-Temp, High Shear rating is ~50% better than Mobil 1 which makes it superior for summer track work. Unfortunately, it's about 3x more expensive as well. LN has now stopped selling this product in favor of Joe Gibbs DT40 but I am told this is only intended for for cars without catalytic convertors. Over time it apparently will clog the cats quite significantly. I have not verified this with LN as of yet. Anyway, for those of you with an interest, here's the article. Best,

Warranty
Maybe until the car is out of manu warranty, you might want to consider oil that are specifically approved by Porsche. They have a bulletin listing them. To use other does present the potential for a warranty breach.

For proper operation of Variocam the lower viscosity oil is recommended. 0W-40 works just fine in the hot summers of Texas. 20W-60 is OK for the BMW M cars, not for the Porsche.

Great stuff. I use this on my Bimota DB7 motorcycle. In fact, I first learned about this oil from a Ducati forum. One member uses it on all his race bikes. Google Rotella T6 vs Mobile 1, you will be surprised to see the results.

What are the results?

I have run 300v in my 750 car but the regional distributor for Motul told me directly its not ideal for a daily driver. Something to do with lacking additives that add longevity to the oil. He stated 300v is more of a racing oil and designed to be changed out very often. As an aside the local Nascar builder here said of all the oils they tested 300v has the lowest engine drag and most HP
