997.2 turbo headlight fit into a 997.1 turbo?
#76
Hey guys, a little update.
The 997.2 headlight housings should arrive on saturday.
The part # for the 997.2 Ballasts are - 997.631.283.01. They are $321 each from Suncoast. ($641 for the pair)
I found a new set on ebay for $245 a pair. Same part #, oem. I'm going to order these today.
I think the last thing I need is a set of HID bulbs, high beam and low beam. I would like to find a good set of 6000k bulbs. Does anyone have any recommendations? It seems like people liked the Hoen Vega's, but i'm not sure if they make those anymore.
What are people using now for bulbs?

If you can live with the slight purple color your options for a 6000k D2S are either Philips Ultinon or Garex. The Hoen Vega (no longer offered) was about 5000k. I think the best look is the Philips D2S Colormatch (5000k) with a comparable Philips halogen bulb - I think it's the DiamondVision. Personally I don't like the purple/violet tinge.
The Philips Ultinon is expensive $220 a pair and there are lots of counterfeits out there so do you due diligence before buying.
Good luck.

Thanks as usual!
So I just took a look at my HID low beams. They already look a blue/white to my eye. The high beams on the other hand are clearly yellow.
I will transfer over my HID low beam bulbs from the 997.1 to the 997.2.
Is it possible to get the high beam H11 Halogen in the blue/white color? Or do they only come in that yellow twinge?

If I'm not mistaken there is only 1 HID bulb in each lamp - a D2S for the low beam. The high beam is a halogen bulb - either an H11 or H7 depending on whether or not you have cornering lights.

Ultinon - 6000k and about $200/pair
If you're going to use a 5000k H11 then I'd recommend the Colormatch HID.

I always thought my 997.1 Turbo had the HID for low beam and high beam? I hear a mechanism of some kind when I change to high beams(car engine off sitting in garage). I assumed the noise was the projector lamp moving to give it the high beam.

The headlamps only have one D2S HID bulb but it does double duty - both low beam and high beam (that's what bi-xenon means). There's a mechanism that engages on high beam and redirects the light. The halogen H11 bulb is strictly high beam and it is referred to in the manual as "additional high beam".

The D2S doesn't change intensity but the light is mechanically redirected for high beam plus supplemented with the halogen H11.

Hey guys,
I finally got around to doing this mod so I am here to update.
With new bulbs installed, the 997.2 Headlights fit right and I can confirm that both the high and low beams work! The faulty headlight warning does come on the dash, but I will deal with that later.
On page 274 of the manual, I can now adjust the vertical height of the light beams, and I will get around to doing that as well.
I am experiencing one problem that wasn't mentioned before, and I have included pictures to illustrate this.
As you can see, the low beam dynamic lights are not pointed straight, they are pointed "outwards".
As per the manual, lateral movement cannot be adjusted.
When the bulbs were installed, you could move the swivelling low beams around, so I will have to pull the lights out again, unscrew the plastic backing as you would to get to the light bulbs, and angle the swivel low beam back to straight, by eye.
It's fairly easy to swivel these around though, they dont lock into place. When driving im wondering if they would shift slightly.
TWTurbo, or other owners who have done this mod, maybe you could speak to this?
Have you encountered this?
The red arrow shows how they are pointed outwards. They should be aligned straight with the green line.
