I would say mirror. Go look at Radar Mirror .com that is who I used. I oput the other control into the ash tray and it is 100% stealth. I have a convertable an in the bright sun, with the top down it is tough to see but I can hear it easily.

The 9500ci is pretty much the best custom installed radar unit.
I have the 9500xi windshield unit, and it works great.

I just bought the 8500ci Plus to install in the BMW, it was half the price of the 9500ci, much simpler to install, and only lacks the autolearn function. So I have to manually mark false alarm locations.

I only have one complaint regarding Escort's GPS assisted radar units, and I wasn't aware of it when I first purchased the 9500xi when it came out.
You have to pay membership in order to update your detector's database of cameras etc... $20/year.

So this is unlike for example Garmin giving free lifetime map/traffic updates.

I have the button panel in the ashtray too but I've had my LED display unit mounted on a plastic faceplate in the space just under the row of buttons in the centre console (spoiler, PASM, Sport Chrono)... I've had it recessed by around 1 cm, and then I went and bought a piece of dense foam (dark grey) and cut it to the shape of the opening.... When I get pulled over, I place the foam over the panel which obviously hides it and it looks stock....
