Removing turbos

Removing turbos
I am in the process of removing my turbos so they can be upgraded with larger wheels. So far, I have the rear bumper, exhaust, heat shields removed. Is there anything special I need to know about regarding the turbos and the removal process?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I did not get a chance to photograph my DIY the last time around - if you get a chance, please snap a few photos to help others.
The turbo removal is pretty straight forward - while they are off, I recommend doing your plugs.
Good luck.

doing the plugs at the same time is a good idea.

Make sure you have a bucket underneath the turbos...They will spill coolant and oil once off...Just be careful when prying up the lines off the turbo as well...You can bend the outside flange...It's a pretty straight forward job though...If you have any question while doing it, I'd be more than happy to assist you via pm! Also easier to take the intercoolers off as well...

its now 10:10, Florida time and i have the drivers side turbo off. I freaked out for a second when coolant started coming out, then realized, "hey, thats normal, chill out Joe". Tomorrow night i'm going to tackle the passenger side. I'm labeling everything as I go and will continue to do so. Placing all nuts and bolts in labeled bags for reference. The oil and coolant lines were a little tricky but with help from my very thin flat head screw driver, getting under the tabs was a little easier. The passenger side will be easier now that I understand the mechanics.
Thanks for the support 6speed!!

A little scary for the first time.
Good job, good luck on the other side.

I've been able to do my plugs the second time around without removing the turbos... its a bit tricky but if you loosen the bolt that holds the turbo you can push the turbo out of the way without taking off the lines or loosening them. Saves the trouble of replenishing any lost flluids and saves a mess...
edit" oh yeah and saves time!!!!

Like bbywu said do a search in the 996tt section for turbo blankets & you will find a review with pbox times & info by MBailey .Myself i put the turbo blankets & header blankets on & went for a run around the block ,1st time i stepped on it my ypipe popped off which hasn't given my problems in a couple years, proving to me they worked.
