Conversion- Tiptronic buttons to flappy paddle

Anyone done this on a 997.1? I looked at the DIY section and only saw the conversion for the 997.2.

In my case, I suppose I could do with the quirky button placement but coming from an e92 m3, I really like the paddles. I'm sure that the paddles will come in handy at the track as well.

Thanks
SZ

Yes you can install the Paddle shift OE 997.2 wheel that comes with the PDK. Suncoast has them. FVD also makes steeling wheels with the paddles for the 997.1 . I went with the FVD wheel at the time because PDK was not out let. FVD wheel is more of a race type wheel. If you have a tip car paddle shift wheel up grade is a must have.

You need to check with Suncoast first. I have a 2007 and tried to install the Porsche OEM 997.2 paddle shift wheel and it will not work. It may work on 2008 etc. but I am positive it will not work on a 2007. I went with the FVD and love it. Either way get rid of the buttons. Good luck!

Oem 997.2 paddle steering wheel works on 2007 and 2008 models without problems.

We installed it to 4 cars here.

Looks like you will need to make a trip to Turkey. My Porsche dealership spent 5 hours on it and the Suncoast mechanics could not get it to work either.
Suncoast was able to get it to work on 2008 models. My dealership also showed me the Porsche memo stating it would not work. I would make sure you have someone in your area that guarantees they can make it work. Call Suncoast, they know all about it. This was about a year ago so maybe things have changed.

Dont expect Perone to tell you how he did it. Hopefully one of the others will help you out.

I personnaly do not like fvd wheel. To my eyes, it is far from reaching the appeal of the stock 997.2 flappy paddles and steering wheel which looks beautifuly finished and detailed in the design. But to each is own.

Please provide more details. What parts have you used? What specific operations has your mechanic done?

Obviously it works (see pictures posted by Perone and comments left by Emre).

Thanks

I also preferred the looks of the OEM wheel and tried like #$%@ to get it to work. The Porsche dealership put their best mechanic on it. They installed a Europipe EP-1 exhaust for me but are also a very aftermarket friendly dealership. Another 6 Speed member with a 2007 took his to Suncoast and they could not get it to work. What I do like about the FVD is the thickness ( thicker than Oem) and feel. The paddles also seem a little less clunky. I posted on here before and during the attempted install and did not get a single member with a 2007 to respond stating that they got one to work. I wish all members the best of luck in getting one installed. It just did not work out for me.

Yes, I got a new air bag that comes with the OEM wheel. If you are going to try to do this call Rick at Suncoast first. He can give you all the info you need and they carry the wheel. But unless things have changed since my attempted install, I do not think it will work. I still have not had a 6-speed member say they were able to do this on a 2007.

Ff you buy this steering wheel (997-044-402-16-A10 STEERING WHEEL)
it works together with this electronic part (997-613-289-01 ELECTRONICS )

but you have to go to the dealer for coding of the new electronic unit.

It works even on 2008 Carrera 4s which i have done today.

Regards,
Emre
