HELP! My GT2RS ICs don't fit in my 997.1tt

I've just had a phone call from my Porsche Dealer that the GT2RS ICs I purchased from Sonnen do not fit in my 997.1tt... I'm told the hoses are different diameters... I'm really confused because all the threads and blogs I have been able to find describing the upgrade all mention an OEM fit as far as mounting points and hoses... the only thing that should need modification is the upper duct as far as I understand...

The only reason for this that I can think of is that the part numbers that are often quoted are:

997.110.639.70 Left Intercooler
997.110.640.70 Right Intercooler

but the parts that turned up are:

997-110-639-71
997-110-640-71

Can anyone with experience give me some clues as to where to go from here??

Cheers,

drvik

I have aftermarket IC's (not GTRS so this might not be helpful) and I know my shop had to do some very light body modification to get them to fit properly. They said that was normal.

Do you have aftermaket hoses, ie Forges? They are a tight fit. But FYI even standard 996 turbo hoses fit 997.2 ICs.

Did you manage to install 997-110-639-71 997-110-640-71 intercoolers ? Is the hose diameter really different ?

^ Check with Speed21, he got the scoop from the shop that installed drvik's coolers. It sounds like there may have been a slight clip redesign and using the 997.1 clips with a layer of felt near the bayonets on the metal portion of the hoses worked fine.

Strange... on my car i only had to shave the outlet scoops because the gt2rs is a bit larger and fixed with zip ties. Other than that was a direct fit.

Has anyone tried replacing the ducts with 997.2 ducts so there is no cutting/zip ties required? I'm interested in this topic, as I don't really like the idea of using a zip tie on a $150,000 car to hold intercooler parts... All the threads seem to tiptoe around that.

We did get them to fit as earl3 has described. They have been on for a while with no problems and an obvious improvement in the cars responsiveness in warmer weather.

ECS tuning sells the kit with o rings and hoses. Maybe they are different.

I didn't like the idea using zip ties or straps or whatever, to hold the upper and lower ducts together so I used the 997.2 ducts with the 997.2 coolers. New coolers&ducts fit perfectly to existing metal frame, and the result is stock 100%.
Of course I had to pay for the 997.2 ducts, which weren't cheap....

p.s. GTRS and 997.2 coolers are the same, BUT the ducts are different so for the 997.1 the 997.2 ducts should be used.

You are making such a drama with the ic scoops... it just need a small trim and zip ties. It is so easy to do the install that anyone without mechanic skills can do it. The zip ties will hold the scoops even better than original mounts and no one will be able to see that it is there, unless you plan to drive around without the rear bumper.

A member asked if anyone used the 997.2 ducts, and since I have done just that, I shared my experience and view. If you are happy with you zip ties it's ok by me, but you should refrain from judging others who don't like the zip ties and prefer a stock like solution.
Ok?

I didn't judged anyone and this talk is so ridiculous that is hard for me to speak about it. But ok, i will make the effort for you.

You can even wrap your 997.2 ducts in carbon or gold that i don't care. It is your money. But will it flow and perform better than 997.1? Will others be able to see what you have done? Will it hold better the ducts than zip ties? The answer is simple: NO.

And to the ones that are worried about zip ties, i will tell you a secret: your expensive car already has a bunch of zip ties from factory.

Zip tie isn't a bad solution. It serves its propose pretty well: it is ridiculous light, don't rust and will hold any part for a life time without loosing the strenght.

My post is just to don't lead others to think that the best route is to pay more for new ducts. Sometimes the simplest and cheapest solution is as good or better than the expensive one.
