Need HELP, found GIAC USB cable in glove compartment!
Hey guys,
I picked up my 997 turbo and know it had GIAC tune, but since the car was CPOed the car was flashed back to stock. Any clue on how I can get the tune back? Do I need to start from scratch? Any info would be great
Thanks,
Greg

You meant the OBD-II cable (pic below), not "USB" right? I would suggest you call GIAC or one of their dealers a call:
GIAC
1350 Reynolds Ave, Suite 106, Irvine, CA 92614
949-724-0014
sales@GIACusa.com
Although people from GIAC post here occasionally, I don't believe they commonly deal directly with customers so if above contact is not successful you might want to contact one of their dealers. Some well known forum sponsors and dealers are AWE Tuning (close to where you are, Pennsylvania), Champion in Florida, and GMG in California.

To see if the software is still on the ECU, simply plug in the Flash Loader and press "Read". The buttons that light up will be the programs which are currently installed.
As for retreiving a previous tune, the re-flash is unfortunately only applicable to the original purchaser. As such, you would need to purchase a new software upgrade. If I can be of any help, feel free to send me an email.

Greg, the GIAC flash loader is (I think?) only a couple hundred bucks; alternatively talk to AWE and see if you could drive the car there for them to check, it takes seconds to find out. It's worth the investigating work because you've won a $3000 lottery if it's still there.
The flash loader is a keeper anyway because it allows you to go back to stock in just a push of the button so you could make comparisons and have the peace of mind that it actually does something, etc. I have it permanently connected in my car.
