997.2 Turbo S Question

Hello everyone,

My name is Mario, I bought a Porsche 911 Turbo S 2012 about... 3-4 months ago but it only has around 400-500 miles on it.

EDIT: Alright, seeing as there's almost 100 views and no answers I'll just cut to the point and ask:

What kind of boost level should I be seeing in my car at full gas and sport plus mode?

Is it normal that mine jumps from 14 to 17? Shouldn't it stick to 17 most of the time?

Oh and I forgot to mention I'm at 8800 Ft above sea level. But from what I heard Turbos aren't affected by altitude?

Thanks.

Of course boost is affected by altitude

less O2 density in less mass = less boost
at 8800 feet you have significantly less atmospheric pressure than at sea level

I found this using google for you:
discussion regarding boost and altitude

calculator for your specific altitude

Alright, I was aware that altitude has a very big impact on Natural Aspirated cars and also Supercharged. But I thought if a Turbo is set to go up to 18 PSI, it WILL go up to 18, but it has to work harder to do so.

I used the Calculator at 2600 Meters above sea level and 70 F Temperature. Shows 10.6 PSI Pressure, but I'm not sure what exactly this means?

The thing that worries me a little is that on Youtube I see a couple of videos showing 0-XXX tests and the PSI shows 15, 16 but it mostly stays at 17 90% of the time. It NEVER goes below 15. On my car, it jumps from 14 to 17, but sticks to 14 quite a lot sometimes.

Sorry if some of my answers / questions are a stupid, English isn't my first language and I'm not an expert when it comes to car stuff either. I'm just a little paranoid because I "feel" like my car should be doing 17 PSI most of the time, though I could be wrong.

Well at sea level your atmospheric pressure in PSI would be about 14 or so; assuming the boost of 1.2 bar at sea level = 17 PSI or so; pegged and happy.

However, you are at 8800 feet and thus your atmospheric pressure baseline is 10.6; here is your discrepancy, the best your turbo can try to put out is 14 or so because the air mass is significantly less (this would mean your car is adjusted for altitude)

As a side note, I bet your oxygen carrying capacity smokes mine, I live at sea level

Alright so it sounds like seeing my PSI jump from 14 to 17 is normal!

I even ordered the Agency Power Silicone Boost hoses thinking I have some sort of leak somewhere. I didn't like the stock ones as soon as I saw them.

Though I have been having this issue that normally on the first hard acceleration I do in the car, boost goes down from 17 to less than 5 for like a split second and back up to 14-17. But it normally doesn't happen again. Does this sound like some sort of boost leak?

This is not normal. I would run a leak check and datalog to see whats going on.

I'll be getting the Agnecy Power silicone boost hoses this week, and I'll take bumper off and install them. We are thinking if there's any leaks it will most likely be one of the stock hoses, they are soft and move just by touching them.

So what you are saying is, my car SHOULD be getting 17 psi most of the time and not jump from 14 to 17?

What are some common places for boost leaks?
Thank you!
