CPO Warranty Question

Hi, I am lookin at a 2007 911tt and the car was sold as a Certified Pre Owned vehicle in 2008 with 9K miles on it. The car now has 45K miles on it. Wouldn't the CPO if issued in 2008 during original warranty period cover the car for up to 100K miles or until 2013 - even if the car is being sold by a non-Porsche dealer?

Ad says that there is no warrany on the vehicle, but CarFax shows the CPO sale in 2008. Wouldn't the CPO warranty transfer with the car, or does the CPO warranty stop if sold by anyone other than a Porsche dealer?

Thanks in advance for responses!

Eric

Eric - I can't say I am an expert on this but one simple way to address your question is to call Porsche USA with your vin to ask them exactly when the CPO expires. I believe it extends 2 more years and up to 100K from when the original warranty expired.

Here is the big stomper - if the CPO car was sold to a non-Porsche dealer, CPO terminates. CPO continues only when you sell to a person (not dealer) or to a Porsche dealer.

Once the car goes to a non-P dealer, CPO is void. If sold private, CPO follows. Sounds like like CPO is null and void.

Why would a CPO become null and void, anyway!!

CPO is sort of like factory (but we know its from the dealer) warranty on the vehicle, when sold to whoever. When whoever sells it again and again, the CPO remains intact, unaffected. Unless you've done service at non-authorized Porsche dealer!

You paid for that warranty, it stays as is, till expire.

Thats what I was told by one source!!

Easier way to confirm is call your local p dealer and ask if they can check it warranty is still valid. I did this today on a few cars I was looking at.

I think the writing in bold letters, where it says "warranty will be void if car is traded to unauthorized Porsche dealer" can likely be quite contentious - legally speaking!

Why would it become void in any event...other than the one and only: if the vehicle was serviced at (or by) an unauthorized Porsche dealer!

..........

If I sell my CPO 997 to a private party then warranty is transferrable. If I sell my CPO 997 to a dealer (Porsche or non-Porsche) then warranty is not tranferrable. The warranty doc is very clear. Since PCNA is the one providing the warranty, I guess they can choose not to transfer it - those are their rules so I'm not sure why there would be a legal issue.
