Please help with DME report...

I have never had to read a DME report sooo here goes. I was hoping you all could shed some light on this for me. No 5 or 6 over-revs are good I think but I am obviously concerned about the range 4 and the number 1114 associated with that range. Also How long ago did the range 4 happen? Did it happen more than once? Thanks for any help Gents.
If it help..the car has been flashed and I believe the new rev limiter is ~7000.

Looks to have been driven a bit hard. I had a similar set of posts in June/July when buying my 07 997tt.

lots of hits to the rev limiter (many range 1 - 2). and as you pointed out the car has spent a few seconds in range 4 (above 7400). At the end of the day the range 1-3s don't concern me too much as these engines are very strong, but the car was probably driven hard so I would check the rest of the drive train, suspension etc to ensure the overall integrity of the car.

When I was hunting for my car, I would have probably walked given the range 4s in the DME, I'm pretty sure you can only get a range 4+ due to a miss shift and that could be worrisome. However if the car meets all you other requirements (color, options, price, condition) and you still love it then I'd make sure I have an extended warranty that covers any potential engine failures, that would give me the peace of mind needed to consider a purchase

The car probably has an aftermarket flash with raised rev limiter.

I would buy a brand new car that doesn't even have any Over Revs not even 1 or else I will keep loking for years to find one without any over revs.
Btw, if you are concerend about the engine damage, well there are zillion more ways of hurting an engine and not knowing about it besides just the over revs though
I am going to grab a bag of pop corn and a pitcher of Regular Coke 'coz this is going to be interesting reading all the expert recomendations

What else is there to say?

As you stated the engine is flashed and this raised the rev limit.

As to be expected this higher rev range was broached. The last one 12 hours of engine run time ago.

Whether these all happened at once or over 1114 different times -- or whatever the min. number of counts can accumulate per over rev event -- no one can say.

If you like the car and if at the end of a ~1 hour test ride/drive you find the engine free of any CEL and the engine (and the rest of the car) free of untoward behavior then it is a matter of giving the car a thorough used car inspection followed by a PPI.

If it all comes up roses buy the car.

Or walk away.

There's always another car.

Either the car has engine damage or it does not...I think there is too much worry put on these dme reports. Does it burn oil? have a knock? have low power? I think using these cars and even driving hard and fast is better then low use and sitting. Just start a car after prolonged periods of non use....listen to all that tapping. Use it but keep it maintenanced...the car will last longer.
