EXACTLY the same thing has happened to my front hood and it was driving me crazy. I happened to have the car at a body shop replacing my back up sensor.
He hand buffed it out, without a power wheel, and it looks pretty good for now.

But I'm headed to my records to see what kind of film was put on originally. It has definitely saved me some rock chips. I can live with some bug marring while it's saving my paint.
