If you believe the rumors, the 991 Cups will be switching to a a new 3.8L from Porsche Motorsports. Not the Mezger, and not the 9A1, although apparently they've purchased enough GT1 blocks to support the Cup program for another 2 years.

Chris, I'm thinking that the new motorsport engine may be sharing some modular compatibility to the 9A1. When it was originally introduced, some of the engine diagrams showed connectors which could be used for a dry pump. I'm wondering if the motorsport engine is going to be sharing a lot with the 9A1 - it would make sense financially as well as physically as both fit the dimensions necessary for PDK?

I wonder if Porsche may have inadvertently let out a little something to those of us with sharp eyes...
Notice the "Turbo" intakes on this car. I think these may be coming from the upcoming 991 Turbo, if you notice they're slightly larger than the 997's and also have a slightly different shape, they don't have the point at the bottom of the duct! Of course, they could be one-offs just for this car, but I can't help but think they may have dipped into the upcoming Turbo's developmental Parts bin as these are obviously unfinished.

Note the steering wheel paddles comment on the second page? Of course that doesnt imply an auto box, it could still have a clutch... Lets see...

The article is references the Cup car. I don't think the RSR is running until 2014? Possibly the new engine? Just speculating.

The nose and rear panels are adapted to the flared front and rear wheel arches, as are the door sill and the wheel arch coverings. The aerodynamic concept is complemented by a new ducting of the intake air. Openings in the rear side sections, as known from the turbo variants of the Porsche 911, replace the air scoop on the engine hood.

From whom do they purchase the GT1 blocks? What happens down the road for warranty with Mezger equipped cars in that case?

Sorry, didn't mean to steal anyones thunder by duplicating. Didn't notice it on 991 sect, so when it was sent to me via email i thought id put it up here. If inappropriate just remove it from here and join it with Mikes thread. I'm easy.
