Stereo Upgrade

Happy birthday to me. I got tired of the old PCM, the mobridge crappy static, limitation on # of contacts, crappy iPod music navigating (that stupid hold button down for 2 seconds cracks me), no bluetooth audio, no XM

Just got this package in mail from Al and Ed's Autosound. Includes everything I need to add:

- Touch screen
- XM
- Live mirroring from iPhone, actually shows what's on the iPhone, will be fun for Escort Live
- Bluetooth Audio/Pandora
- Much better Phone capabilities, auto answer
- DVD
- HD Radio
- Better 3D navigation with lifetime traffic tracking
I will have my old iPod in dash for any music not on phone or if don't have phone

Came with MOST HUR, dash kit, parking brake bypass for video adapter, iPhone 5 mirroring cables, XM adapter, everything I need in one box.

Will keep you posted on this DIY. I love my car too much to @#!*% off listening to music. I know, some want to hear the car, there's a time for both for me.

I didn't think the 8 inch would fit; where did you find a bezel to finish? Cannot tell from the pics. Thanks

Where did you mount the GPS for nav and satellite radio? Any tips on how you did it?

Aren't there buttons that will be lost when the factory unit is removed... ie: hazard lights?

And if that doesn't do it, there is that constant beep to help you along. Thanks for the chuckle & best of luck with your setup - looks awesome.

I didn't install them. The whole system including subs and speakers came with the car and previous owner had a professional shop install them.

really looking forward to how this turns out! Be sure to do a review after install.

I've owned my 997.1TT for over a month now, still having trouble figuring out that terrible nav and radio/audio setup. The only glaring weakness of the car.

Install Notes and Video demo

Here is a video of my new radio upgrade (sorry that is shows shrinked) and the install notes.

I'm still having 1 issues I hope to resolve on Monday (1. Bluetooth Pandora controls, audio still works, 2. iPhone mirroring)

Took me maybe 5 hours, most of the time was digesting what wires needed to connected to each other and then feeding all the wires everywhere. Wouldn't take more than a 2-3 hours to repeat it now

These are the components

- Alpine INE-z927HD
- Sirius XM module
- NAVTV NOST HUR 997
- Eurospeed Motorsports dashkit (Has dash disconnects, faceplate (matches exactly), radio side mounting hardware, radio antenna converter, Accessory wiring)
- TR7 Video bypass
- HDMI convertorto vga - used for mirroring, haven't got this to work yet

Threads I used to help with install
http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...radio-removal/
http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-b...vic-120bt.html

1. Remove of old PCM and mobridge (Anybody want to buy a mobridge unit, cheap?)
2. Disconnect battery, removed battery holder bracket, slide battery to the left. This made for easy access to the rubber grommet to feed Xm and navigation antennas through
3. Mounted antennas to the plastic rain guard underneath on the passenger side. Used industrial strength velco. Ran wires through dash an over to radio. Fn load of extra wire, would have shortened them if I knew how, but just wrapped up and ziptied them under dash
4. Removed cover in passenger foot well for a hiding spot for my MOST HUR. 4 plastic screws
5. Stuck XM unit with velco to behind radio, there is a metal bracket
6. Connected radio antenna converter from ESM kit
7. Ran Accessory wiring (red) harness to fuse box. They said to use C6, but C6 was only on when the car was running, so I used the same one I used for my DRLs, B8.
8. Ran USB and video for iPod into my glove compartment
9. Ran mic from driverside upper corner. A little trick to keep wire behind plastic and window, wrap electrical tape every 6-8 inches around the mic wire until its big enough for you wedge in there, then it stays
10. Soldered MOST HUR wiring to radio harness and the connector that came with ESM kit for CAN High and CAN low, see link above
12. Soldered TR7 accessory red, parking brake and brake pedal wires, this bypasses the restriction for video while driving. My kids like to watch Movies
13, Soldered all yellows (Constant power) to together. Note, something was wrong with the lead from factory wire, maybe a fuse, so I found another constant wire to tap into, positive of cigarette lighter. Was impatient, will fix some day. I also soldered the power antenna wire to the ESM connector as well, I don't know if even have one.
14. Soldered all blacks

Mirroring that isn't working yet, so I will update with a change
15. Remove rubber cover in compartment under radio
16. drilled a hole for fit HMDI came through, the rubber cover covers the hole, so I wasn't too worried about it. But that's where I'll connect my iPhone to watch videos from or mirror my apps, like Escort Live
17. HDMI Connects to a converter box, which translates to the Yellow, Red, White VGA cables that connect to my Aux in cables on the radio
18. Soldered red and black to wires above
19. Mounted unit behind climate control box, plenty of room there

19. Started connecting everything, still a lot of crap back there,
- RCA cables radio to MOST HUR
- ESM connectors (now that I know the wires, I might have bypassed those and soldered them directly to reduce space
- SiriusXM
- FM/AM HD radio antenna
- Navigation
- Mic for Phone
- USB for iPod
- Video for iPod

20. Mounted MOST HUR where I had mounted my Mobridge, under passenger footwell, with velco, there is a space back there that fits perfect

21. Reconnect battery and tested

22. Put back side pieces to radio

First impressions are very positive, coming from the crap I dealt with, anything would have been great. This is definitely going to make my ride more enjoyable. I'm not selling this bad boy for a long time.
- Everything is real fast switching around
- Home page is cool and customizable
- 3D navigation is very cool, even shows mountains in the background when I zoom out
- Having iPod which is 160G available for all my music and videos and my iPhone5 via bluetooth work individually is nice
- Sound is awesome, no more static between songs
- Phone sounds great, unlimited contacts, also supports auto answer, call waiting
- Realized how much I missed SiriusXM and Pandora. Also a cool tagging feature, any songs I like I can tag and when I go to iTunes, i can see them to buy
- Touch screen is nice, but all units have that now

Negatives
- Driving in my wife's Mustang 5.0, she has voice operated controls. I should have checked into that for an after market because that is pretty cool
- I have a $hit load of music on my iPod. I can navigate ok, via artist to albums to songs, but nagivating to songs is pain even with Alphabet skipping. Wish it has a keyboard like the contacts work , where you start to type and it only shows the letters of the songs that are left and once under a few songs, it just shows the songs.

One last thing, I bought this whole kit from Shane aka Saturn as Al and Eds Autosound. I had a question about mounting antennas and we used facetime to show me, he just happened to be installing an 997TT then and showed his install.
