Tune w/ stock turbos. Need Help!!!

Had the following installed by local Porsche dealer:
IPD Plenum and Y Pipe
Evoms 550pkg (tune and recirc valves)
TCU tune
BMC filters
Stock muffler delete

From what I was told the evoms tune should produce 21-22psi whether in normal or sport mode and I should be around 600hp with all the parts I put in. The stock guages will only read 17 or 18 I am told. When I get on the car in normal it tops out at 15psi, and 17psi in sport mode.

Appreciate any thoughts on why I am only seeing 17psi if it should be 21-22. We are all at a loss. All hoses and clamps seem to be holding.

The stock car gauge will only show up to 17 PSI. You need Durametric or a log program to see real boost. You could be getting 20-25 PSI and the car will only show you 17.

Wouldn't you expect it to show and hold 17psi then for a while if it was making that much more? Mine hits 17 for max 5 seconds before dropping off.

Planning on taking onto a Dyno soon as well and putting an AEM boost gauge in where the chrono was as right now I feel like its missing something.

5 seconds is a long time. Boost will taper at higher RPM.

Not only was it mentioned the stock PSI counter won't read more than 17, I recall reading here it's calculation wasn't really reading true boost in the first place. I think with some data logging from a Durametric cable you can calculate it, though.

To OP, everyone is correct, ignore the stock boost gauge, it's not accurate. The max you will ever see is 15/17 and real boost is only available with Durametric.

Basically in the stock car, the stock gauge reads 15/17 but measured real boost pressures are 16/19, from my measurement below:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ed-giac-8.html
What I see numerically:
Normal: 15 psi (not 14, but 15) at around 3000 rpm. I believe this is because 1 bar is 14.504 psi, rounded up to 15 psi.
Sport: 17 psi (never 18, only 17) at around 3000 rpm. I believe this is because 1.2 bar is 17.4 psi, rounded down to 17.
Ah... German engineering's precision and logic, even in rounding.

What I see with the bar graph: The scale is psi-9-18 regardless of mode.
Normal: Does not go all the way to the right of the scale
Sport: Goes all the way to the right of the scale, at the 18 mark.

What I see with Durametric in Stock Mode, the actual measured boost:
Normal Stock 2020-910 = 1.110 bar = 16.1 psi at 3248 rpm, max engine load 154
Sport Stock 2250-910 = 1.340 bar = 19.4 psi at 3471 rpm, max engine load 172

What I see with Durametric and GIAC
Normal GIAC 2350-910 = 1.440 bar = 20.9 psi at 3421 rpm, max engine load 194
Sport GIAC 2550-910 = 1.640 bar = 23.8 psi at 3343 rpm, max engine load 222

Wow thanks for all the info. Will an AEM boost gauge reflect true boost level then if I put one in?

21-22 Lbs of boost is a LOT of boost. Are you sure it's that much? Generally when boost is increased with stock parts, they push to 19-20 which is still quite a bit.

What about the upwards arrow that pops up next to the boost gauge after you exceed 18psi? I think a recall a thread regarding "how to tell if you have a tune"

Car is vomiting.

Put on a mustang dynamometer and was told I should be 430-450 by evoms as they run the same Dyno. Stock turbo should be 380ish.

Mine ran 350/376. Sometimes it sounded good but the power wasn't shown. Other times it was a very gradual rpm run up like it wasn't in boost at all or was pulling massive timing. Evoms is looking at the data log and said the car is not happy at all. They want a smoother band and much more power. Doing smoke test on Monday at Porsche that did the install. Then upgrading to evoms silicone clamps/hose kit and another smoke test with Dyno run next Friday.

Had the left intake hose completely disconnected when we opened the trunk. The right intake plenum boot was on but the clamp completely off. Had 2 runs where the clamp on the y pipe to throttle body failed and popped under pressure too. This is why we are replacing them all. Not sure why porsche would install those on there if they were past their life.

blowing off ypipe and such is pretty common if you're using bad clamps or not tightening all the way. Should be an easy fix to keep it all together. But I'd be very unhappy with the porsche dealership that installed if they didn't bother to tighten the clamps properly...

As big of a PITA this was, count the blessings a bit as problems go with the car pulling timing and generally not being happy, this is one of the best ones and easily remedied :-)

The guy doing the Dyno seemed to be a bit new at testing them. What gear should you do the pulls in, and at what rpm should you floor it?
