Any regrets I stalling after market stereo?

Hey there,

After burning cd after cd, I am now seriously looking to install the after market system. I was watching the del ray audio clips and I think the full system with the (HUR? system is nice. I like the idea of back up camera, Bluebooth integration with audio, etc.

I do have one question. The PCM controls the individual setting, like daytime running light, personal settings, etc. With the PCM gone, who would you make any of those changes?

Got the Double DIN + Most HUR 997 kit from Eurospeed here + Kenwood DNN990HD.

I never used my PCM-programmable personal settings anyway.

Just make sure you set them up how you want for both keys (e.g. enable DRL, climate pref) before you change it out to the aftermarket unit.

I also don't think it will be that big of a deal to temporarily plug the PCM back in if you really need to do anything.

No regrets here.

I just bought everything from sources online...

Amazon:
Kenwood DNN990HD was $1,149.95
Kenwood KCA-IP202 (ipod cable) $27
Kenwood CMOS 300 - $270.17 (310 is out now, I didn't mean to get the 300 but it works fine and is apparently the same)
Ebay (from Euromotorspeed, Loi there is a BOSS) :
MOST 997+Double DIN $795.00

The main thing I am not thrilled with is the backup camera. Very poor quality but maybe I am too used to my iPhone 4 and GoPr. I may have it angled too high, not sure.

It is better than having no camera at all if you are parallel parking, though the OEM park distance warning was good enough already. Honestly a front camera would be useful in that scenario, which you do have the option of adding with this receiver.

If you are not crazy about tech stuff (e.g. wifi, Android) don't worry about this specific receiver and just go with another Kenwood or Alpine model.

I believe the Del Ray customs guys pre-wire the MOST 997 with the head unit wiring harness, which would save a good bit of time.

I installed it myself so it wasn't that much.

However, given the work you have to do, and considering you're working on a Porsche where you'll want to tape off interior bits and stuff to avoid scuffing the leather (I don't do that and it does show, but I don't care that much) -- I could easily see someone wanting $1000+ to do this install -- and that would take you to $3000.

I have zero experience with the aftermarket audio market so this is just a completely uneducated guess based on the time and effort I put into setting my stuff up.

The Most HUR is way too expensive for what it does. All you need is the dash kit.

On my 996 Turbo cab this product was not available when I bought the best NAV on the market in 2004 - 2005 or so. That was the AVIC Z1. Compared to OEM this seemed decades ahead.

An aftermarket amp costs nothing and gives you better sound. I just reused the Bose speakers. Modern amps let you control frequency on the outputs. I also used capacitors on the tweeters in the dash separately. Any stereo shop can do this install cheaply. There is a trick. When you call for a quote every mention of the word "PORSCHE" is to be avoided. Say you have a HONDA, all speaker wires can be tapped into in the "trunk". DON'T mention the location of the "trunk".

Everybody said that the bigger amp would blow the 2 Ohm speakers. I never did.
